First....it's hey Marines, not hey fellas.
Second.....when using the words Marine or Marine Corps, it will be capitalized at all times.

Oh dang, I guess I should have worn my mint flavored boots today, It is a good thing I scraped the cow crap off of the ones I do have on. I once again am sorry for disrespecting you. After looking at your profile I now have a question about length of contracts. As a cook can I get a one year contract or is this just reservided for supply jobs? I was thinking that if I could get a one year contract I could see if I liked being a Marine and if i didn't then I would not have tied up a long time in the Corps.
Thank You
PS. That sure is a good looking dog you have. I had one just like it but I had to shoot it because it was killing my ma's chickens

My contract wasn't for a year. I put a year and a half in. When I was in Okinawa I fell and broke my ankle and had problems from it. Eventually, it led to me getting out.
In my opinion, if you're having doubts about how many years you want to give the Marine Corps, then being a Marine isn't something you want to do.

I was just exploring my options when I asked about the one year contract. I think that i would stay in the Corps for a long time if i was able to complete basic training. I do have another question though. If I was lucky enough to become a cook, would I get to jump out of airplanes? I have always wanted to do that. I have never been in a plane but hope to get to one day.
Thank you
PS. That is to bad you career was cut short by an injury

Good Grief I just can't seem to get out of my own way! I understand Boot Camp and not basic training. So I guess my dream of jumpimg out of an airplane is not going to happen. I guess those Marines that jump out of airplanes just don't get feed. I think I will go to town and talk to a recruiter this afternoon once I get done with my chores. wish me luck!
PS Mr. Spankie I am not a poser, but I am glade i could ad some humor (unintended I asure you) to your day!!!!

do what ever MOS you want. Do not let any Marines tell you it is stupid because they do not know you. My old Gunny is a cook and he loves it. If you want to be a Marine jumping out of planes with food go for it. Now, you can call Marines guys or gals when you know them and they tell you that you can. Its just a sign of respect to Higher Ranking Marines. you will learn all of this stuff in boot camp. Semper Fi and have a great day and sign them papers Devil.

If you read the young mans original post, you would've seen that he said his father is a former Marine, so he should know the difference between boot camp and basic training.
No one was being rude to the young man, just correcting him on a few things.
As for the Sir/Ma'am thing...I never said it had anything to do with calling Officers Sir/Ma'am. I was called Sir at least 3 times yesterday, so yes, I will correct someone on that. It only takes someone a few seconds of their time to look at someones profile.
The guys and gals thing....these wannabes and poolees aren't Marines yet, so they should show respect to the Marines on this site by calling them as such.

Instead of making a two cent assumption that there were rude comments directed towards the one that started the thread, take a few seconds to read each thread line by line then determine with common sense if this person is for real or having fun.

I went and talked to a recruiter today and will be going to take a test next Saturday. The recruiter tokd me that as a cook I most likely would not get to jump out of planes. He did tell me about a job called 0451 air delivery specialist that would give me the chance to not only fly in planes but also to jump out of them. So this is a win win for me. I get to learn a new job and jump!!!
WMarine. I would have loved to ask my Pop's advice about the Marines however I could not. He died about 9 years ago so our father son talks are a litle onesided.
Meserole08ohra, thank ou for the encouragment! It sure is good to know that not all Marines will give me a rash of crap or call me a poser because I am not a knowable as they are. I do find it interesting that all the formentioned Marines are no longer in the Marines (according to their profile).

That and Recon, and ANGLICO are jump billets. I see nothing wrong with being a cook. Sheit if thats what you want to do you can use your GI bill and go to culinary school. Chefs in high class restaraunts make pretty good darn money. But I have never seen a cook with jump wings though.

My apologies about your father.
And why do you find it interesting that some of us Marines are no longer in the Marine Corps?
This is a Marine Corps site for Marines. You don't have to be active duty or reserves to be a member here......and as the saying goes..."Once A Marine, Always A Marine".

IS it really a need to be so rude to the guy?

Is it really a need for you to be so disrespectful to your elders AND Marines that blazed the path for you? You'll learn Lil Miss that it's not a good thing to "take up" for folks sometimes. If you read the Poolee Rules (which I think you should as the rest of us have), you'll see that you have been telling some Poolees to just ignore things.

BTW, the Army does, in fact, have cooks that are 'Airborne'. Just helping the thread along.

As a cook in the Marine Corps, you'll be able to go just about anywhere. In the old days, not sure if it's still that way today, the cooks worked different shifts, and had different days off. Since the Chow Hall is/was a 24/7 operation, they worked all the time. Most of them I knew (I did LOTS of Mess duty dammmmit) seemed to like their job.

Meserole08orah
12-03-09, 07:19 AM
Sparkie... I didnt ask for your opinion on my picture nor do i really care. Stick to the thread.

Marines, I understand what the rules are and what we know and what he should know as a Marine's Son, But how many times have you all honestly listened to details when your father or mother said "well back in my day" My whole point is that there is really a need to be rude about correcting someone? If he was a Marine I wouldn't say anything at all, But he is not a Marine yet and he needs to learn at Boot Camp the right and wrong of the Marine Corps. We should all be answering his quesitons and "informing" him if you will that we are not a Sir or a Ma'am and the Marines is always spelt as a name because that is what we are. So instead of being all rude about it be Marines and help the guy out. Because are you honestly going to put people on blast on public at a Mall or Store when they accidently call you Sir/Ma'am, call Boot Camp Basic Training or call a Marine a Sailor because they do not now any better? This thread is not about me or my picture it is about a Civilian realizing he is nasty and needs to be come one of the few. And as Marines you should be motivating him and teaching him things you wish you knew before you left Boot Camp so he doesn't get eatin alive by Marines in the fleet.

As for "earning" respect... that is not even how that works. As for being a "little Girl Marine" OK pretty sure I do everything any Male I am stationed with can do, and I do it. I dont do pansy @ss flex arm hang I max out the same as every male. So unless you want some Marine calling you and little boy Marine, you just might want to watch what you say to Marines. After all... if you want respect I guess you just got to earn it.

And I have read his profile and what he did say just like you said, and I'm not trying to stick up for him because if you read what I wrote, I did agree. But what I was saying is there is other ways of saying it and instead of changing the thread from an MOS related topic to a "Rules of Posting on Leatherneck.com" police thread. Im not saying he was right for calling you a Sir because last time I looked you were not shining at all (Officer wise) But from someone who has been on RA for 2 months and has put in 10 people, there is no reason to be rude because God knows it will scare almost any pansy @ss wannabe. But anywho, Have a Good day Marines.

Certain CG's in different command have an enlisted aide that is a cook. They cook for all of the receptions and executive parties, but not just any cook can get in from what I've been told.

My knowledge of this isn't very deep, but I know a few of the enlisted aides for CG's in my area (I'm a driver, so I've witnessed quite a few of these receptions). Just a consideration. Good luck
