Im 18 and interested in joining the Marines, but when i was 6 i was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre. Which long story short made me paralyzed from the waist down. I was in the hospital for 2 days before being checked out, then i spent a month or two in rehab basically getting my strength back. I told my recruiter about it and I got all my medical history and gave it to him. He sent a paper to MEPS that stated that i fully recovered and that i was fine. The only thing is i cant get flu shots or it COULD come back, chances are low theres still a chance. I'm very active and in pretty good shape. I played basketball and football throughout high school. Meps told me that i was disqualified. They wont even let me take a physical. MY recruiter told me to have my doctor call and talk to the docs down at MEPS but when he called no one answered and he told me they most likely wont even call him back. I read somewhere online to talk to my congressman and i called there gonna try to help (not sure what it will even do). Is there ANYTHING else i can do? I heard of a buboard? I dont think im spelling that right but another recrutier told me to do that. But if any of you Marines could let me know what else i can do i would appreciate it alot.
Also thank you to everyone of you Marines for serving our country.

Hell's bells your order is out of whack kid.

Exhaust all options before going to a Congressman. If MEPS isn't give you answers then go to your recruiter. If he's not getting any traction then you may want to kick it up his chain of command.

The other recruiter was most likely talking about BuMed. You can try to have your recruiter assemble a packet for a BuMed waiver but you'd have to do some legwork. You need lots and lots and lots of corroborating evidence from your doctor and any specialists you've seen along with recent blood work. Then you're going to have to wait for word back from BuMed.

Even with a BuMed waiver you're not in the clear as you'll have to resubmit to MEPS and they could still DQ you. Talk to your recruiter at length about your options. If he doesn't know how to proceed then respectfully request that he puts you in contact with someone who does.

If all else fails then you're free to petition your local Congressman.

Ok thank you "NoRemorse". I called my recruiter and im going monday to go fill out a BuMed waiver. I kinda have a feeling there gonna disqualify me again though. I hope i can get in, I want it more than anything. Just curious though, what would my congressman do exactly?
