I have a question that i never really thought of asking anyone until now. I studder and have studdered all my life. Im not a really bad studderer just mainly when i get nervous. It hit me today that I'm going to be nervous 95% of the time im at recruit training lol, meaning im going to be studdering alot. Im sure that plenty of people have passed through recruit training over the years who studdered so i just kinda wanted to get some feedback on how it was for them. By no means am i embarrassed by my studdering or anything like that. Just seemed like a good question to bring up. Thank you.

I had a 1stSgt. that had a severe stutter until he was ****ed then he was clear as day, with that said, it certainly did not have an effect on his career. I am sure you make it work for yourself like you have to this point in life.

The DIs will obviously haze you about it, atleast at 1st, but then again they may leave you alone bc they do not wanna wait for your answer. Im just kidding with you, you'll be fine and good luck.

I think that usmcmcf might be hitting the right answer more than he thinks..I know that I hate it when people are stuttering around me, so I try and avoid people that stutter...I imagine that while the DI's will give you crap about stuttering, they'll also leave you alone as long as your crap is together because they don't want to hear you stutter.

Keep your pie hole shut and there will not be a problem.

Best advice, when in doubt shut your trap. Or as the old saying goes "Speak only when Spoken To". Unless your sounding off as a Platoon as a whole. Holy Crap Batman I think I just confused my self with that dribble :D:bunny:

You won't think its funny if you studder while speaking to your Drill Instructor.

Its not like it will be any fault of mine if i studder to a Drill Instuctor. I was born with it and it cant be helped, so whatever punishment i get ill take it. What else can i do lol.

The Gunny is Correct. We had a recruit that stuttered some. He got some major sh*t at first, then the DIs left him alone, he did all right.

You're going to hate life when you have co and btl commander inspections. But that's what boot camp is about-hating life.

But in all reality when it comes to my studdering i have good days and i have bad days. Some days i barely studder at all, then the next i cant even speak with out having someone slap me on the back of the head so i can spit it out. lol

Kid, does not sound like your a quitter. The DIs will be in your grill about it at first. Take it like a man and keep driving forward. You will be fine. The DIs really want you to make it. They won't taunt you in to hell because you have this situation. Once they realize you are strong because of it , you will be fine. You are lucky, you have a perceived weakness that is obvious. They will have to work harder to expose our recruits weakness and this my young friend will take the attention off you. You are going to be fine. In your case I would suggest keeping a low profile and work your butt off. You will make a fine Marine!

I think Mac nailed it (and the Drill Instructors are in everybody's grill about something at first).

Your IST scores look ok. Keep up the good work!

I had a Marine in my unit with a severe stutter. We gave him **** all the time, but he was good to go. Don't sweat it. You will stutter a lot in boot because they will stress you. You have taken the right steps already to identify this issue. Believe it or not, talking about, like you have in this forum, will help you. Always keep in your mind that you may stutter......and it is not the end of the world if you do. Just push through it and you will be fine. Good luck.

I stutter some since i moved to the big cityhttp://www.leatherneck.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif never did before. Usually thinking quicker than the words will spew:nerd: sometimes i'll stammer and detect a tone of amusement on a strangers mask as if i am one who could be taken advantage of or concern that i may be a 1/2-wit. But i'm usually the one who is thoroughly sizing up the other cat:cool:

Haha, Picking on my studdering doesnt bother me at all. I mean i pick on myself about it and ive dealt with it for as long as i was alive. My dad has it and my grandfather has it. Mac, if it doesnt bother me then it really shouldnt bother you lol. Trust me ive had much much worse said and done and i just shrug it off. My studder is not as bad as people i have met. When i was a kid my mother had me in speech classes and there was this one kid who studder was so bad it was like a tick and there are so many people who are like that, so im lucky. I honestly think ill do fine at recruit training. I mean its not like i cant graduate because i studder on a word occasionally. haha.

derikdrock1989,

I may have made a bad typing judgment when I originally typed the line to that post.......

When I went through grade school I believe 2nd -3rd grade I stuttered and went to speech classes.

Some of the most famous performers stutter unless they are singing.....Mel Tillis....so you will go far with your attitude.

Sometimes my humor gets me in trouble.....and some don't like what I type or how I come across.

There was no offense to you personally.

I truly do hope you master a way to make it in boot camp and the Marine Corps. Good luck to you!

Thank you, but you really shouldnt be apologizing because it really wasnt that big a deal. We arent a bunch of old ladies we are men and talking **** to one another is what we do. Atleast where i come from lol.

I stuttered in recruit training. What really killed me were the evening inspections when we had to yell, "Snap! Recruit West (something, something, something*), "Pop! Closed Regular".

I just couldn't get it out. Like you, my stutter wasn't really that bad but recruit training exacerbated it for me. Anytime I was on the spot, I stuttered.

Thankfully, not a single one of my Drill Instructors gave me **** about it.

Fortunately, I don't stutter anymore. The Marine Corps went a long way in helping me purge that from my person.

Don't sweat it and good luck.

*I can't remember the "something, something, something".
