Going to Afghanistan for the first time. Just wanted to hear any recommendations on gear, whether it be boots, glasses, gloves, or whatever. What worked for you and what didn't?

Meh, that linked thread was mostly a ****ing match. Anyone who has been over feel free to share what worked for you.
I recommend getting the ballistic Oakleys from here (http://www.usstandardissue.com). They are all cheaper then regular Oakleys, and you can also get them in your eye glass prescription if you require them. You just need to upload an image of your military ID picture (i took mine with my camera phone), and the next day they will register you and then you will be able to buy the sun glasses. I bought some prescriptions with 100% UV/glare free and they came in the mail a week later.
