Ladies and Gents,

This is my first post on here and i hate that its a emotional one... But i got stationed in the beaufort Sc area and my wife who has vast employment and good employment history aswell as a college degree in pshycology, but she cant even get an interview for a job out here, and the positions keep getting filled by locals ( thats beaufort locals, and if you have been to beaufort you know what im sayin) but does anyone have any advice, cause 20 applications a month and not a single interview for almost 6 months is pretty bad... is she over qualified or something.

Thanks
For your help
Glen

Welcome Aboard, Glen. I think folks arn't sayin much about you're post, cause we don't know what to say. Took my wife a year since we moved here to get a job. It's just a bich right now.

Persistance, call backs, followup, get to know folks. I'm sure she has done all that.
Seriously, Good luck to ya, don't give up.

I am not sure if you have tried but http://www.usajobs.gov/ is a good resource. With PI, the air station, and the naval hospital there, looking into a govenment job may be your best bet.

If the Gov't job search does not pan out, there is more opportunity in Savannah than Beaufort. You will find a lot of the ones that work on either PI or MCAS live n Savannah.

There has got to be a trick getting a job from that site. 10 applications with the FAA, 3 with DHS, 2-3 with USDA, From Pilot to Safety inspector, All have different web applications and are totally different from one another.:thumbdown

The trick with USA jobs is key words. You have to tailor your resume for each position. Study the job desciption and and identify the key words and phrases, also use those words and phrases when completing any KSA's. The other problem, I have found is a lot of the jobs the Feds post most likely already have a candidate in mind or have filled the position. Gov't employment can be very political. It's who you know.

Thanks for the replies everyone... we will look into each option, but it seems we have exhausted almost all means, ecxept for walking in and demading that they hire... but when a job comes available and is filled by someone less qualified right away, its frustrating, but i guess we will have to play the politic role.

Thanks
Glen

Any Aircraft Maint. Jobs in SC or NC for a A&P IA Mechanic with the gov that anyone knows about? Seriously thinking of moving to that area. I lost my passion of flying anyways.

First of all, welcome to Beaufort! The job market here is rough - there's not much available unless you want to commute to Savannah. However, there ARE opportunities, you just have to run across them at just the right time.

I'd refer your wife to a couple of places. First being Craigslist - try the Craigslist sites for Hilton Head, Savannah, & Charleston. http://savannah.craigslist.org/ , http://hiltonhead.craigslist.org/ , http://charleston.craigslist.org/ . Secondly, to the MCCS employment site - it's updated regularly: http://www.mccssc.com/jobs.asp. From there you can link to jobs in Beaufort, Savannah, & greater SC(http://www.mccssc.com/jobs/joblist.pdf). And also, since she has a college degree, she should check out www.higheredjobs.com (http://www.higheredjobs.com) & www.chronicle.com (http://www.chronicle.com). There are a lot of opportunities in local colleges, working in the admissions departments, etc.
