To all of you HM's that have earned the title called Doc here is my poem tribute to you. I wrote it in 1975 and it is still found in Navy and Marine faciilities to this day. See www.docslocker.com

I'm the One called "DOC

I shall not walk in your footsteps,
but I will walk by your side.
I shall not walk in your image,
I've earned my own title of pride.

We've answere the call together,
on sea and foreing land.
When the cry for help was given,
I've been there, right at hand.

Whether I am on the ocean,
or in the jungle wearing greens,
giving aid to my fellow man,
be it sailors or Marines.

So the next time you see a corpsman,
and you think of calling hi "Squid",
think of the job he's doing,
as those before him did.

And if you ever have to go out there
and your life is on the block,
look at the one right next to you,
I'm the one called "DOC"

My sincere thanks to all of you who replied and your kind comments. Yes, I have joined this elite outfit. No I wasn't in Florida during the Cuban Crisis. I did my "Nam" thing in '62 and also the first Gulf War in '90 then retired. Semper Fi to all.

Sparkie,
The harrassment is no problem. When I underwent my Chief's initiation in 1972, THAT was harrassment! And I enjoyed every minute of it. I enlisted back in the old days (1955) and it was a different, very different "touchy-feely" and P.C. stood for Postal Clerk. Semper Fi, brother.

Doc Penny I love your poem. I have a copy next to me at work right now. I have used it in some tribute pages to fallen Marines and Corpsman, and of course gave you the credit. It was first read to me when we checked into Field Med School At Camp Pend. by an Recon HM2, and he read it to us several times.

I am proud to say I have two children. One Navy Corpsman, and one Marine. I am proud of both my boys and hope they do well and stay safe.

I hope it was ok I post here... not really sure how to navigate this bulletin board.

Thank you everyone and stay safe.... you are all in my prayers every night.

Doc Penny.
Do you remember a Doc in the Nam named Mitchell?
First name Dexter, middle name Seth?
He was in the Storm also and then retired.
Damn good man and my best friend although I am young enough to be his son.
We are going to have a Birthday party tomorrow ,just him and me for
our CORPS and swill a few brain grenades and talk a lot of trash.
We seem to be the only Marines is this little rat hole of a town
or we would have a bigger get together.

Hi Doc,
I knew a few of your ancestors, in Korea, 1951. I've never met a Marine who could say a bad word about our pill rollers. Semper Fi!
