Hello Marines,

In about 7 hours I will be going to MEPS for the first time to get my physical. Yesterday (Tuesday) I met with my recruiter to sign a couple of things and he said when I leave MEPS Thursday, I'll leave with an open contract, and then come back to the office, cancel the open contract, and put in the MOS I have reserved (0231 - Intelligence Specialist).

My question is: Is it standard procedure to leave MEPS with an open contract and change it to the reserved MOS?

The reason I ask is because my father told me not to accept anything other than 0231 at MEPS and I'm hesitant to sign an open contract and then change it after I leave.

Thanks, Marines.

Unless you go reserves, you really don't have a "reserved MOS", as you say. After you DEP in, you pick your top 3 MOS fields you would like to do, and at your final trip to MEPS right before bootcamp, they will tell you your MOS they chose for you, and even that could change, like it has happened before.

EEVERYONE goes to MEPS with an open contract. The Marine Corps can not give you a guaranteed MOS field unless your found mentally and physically qualified. You have to go to MEPS in order to do so.
