What does a "nasty civilian " wear to the Marine Corps Ball?
I was invited to come along for the evening. I know that everyone will be at their finest, Dress Blues and all, but what should I wear? A tuxedo? I guess jeans, sweat shirts, and go fasters are out of the question. Any clues? This isn't the first time that I have been invited but this will be the first time, barring shoulder surgery, that I will definitely plan on going.
Let it fly. Let me know your thoughts on anything...dress code , protocol etc.
Thanks in advance.
Gary

Go as formal as you can. I won't say you have to wear a tux, a suit may do, but I probably would go with the tux. All the retired Marines I've seen at Ball's wore tux's. I had a female Marine in my unit who was dating a civilian, but he was always too uncomfortable to come to the Ball...so she just went with another Marine from the unit (weird, I know. It's not like we were gonna make fun of the guy for being a civilian). It would have been interesting to see what he would have worn though.

Most civilians I've seen at MC Balls wore suits and those that owned tuxs wore those. I wouldn't rent a tux unless you feel the need to be super formal, just a nice conservative suit works fine.

You won't be ragged on as a nasty, especially since there will likely be some local politicians and other civilian dignitaries attending. Your personal host should spend some time introducing you around to the unit chain of command and some of the unit members. The Marines will make sure you're taken care of.

So, my NUMBNUTS skivvies are out of the question? Red sox, ecfree? You are bull sh*tting me, right? At least now I have options. LOL. A tux might just fill the bill. It will keep me honest at the refreshment table.

I was thinking a speedo at first but that might be psuhing is. If a tux is not owned I would say a nice suit would do the trick.

Well, this is what I would look like if I took everyone's advice. I'd say that I would look rather spiffy...if you ask me. I don't know if I would get passed the front gate but...LOL...who knows.
Thank you , one and all, for your input.

A suit would do just fine.

Geez, folks, I haven't, as yet, had to wear the "monkey suit" because the Ball will be held on the 21st of this month in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Hyatt-Regency Pier 66). I drove there to get familiar with the surroundings this weekend. Parking for the "Event Only" will be $5.00. That's not bad for this location. Penny's had a great sale on tuxedos, shirts, shoes and everything else that goes with wearing a tuxedo for less than it would cost to rent a tuxedo and accessories for one night.
I'm trying to "tone up" some so that I don't look too far out of place with all the hardbodies that will be in attendance. I have offered to be the designated driver for all those who live in my area. I already have a NO PUKE AREA put in my car...just in case. I'll be sure to bring a camera with BATTERIES THAT WORK. LOL. The last batteries that I put in my camera, which were new, only lasted for four, yes..that's four only camera shots. Oh, yeah, it would have helped if I had put the right batteries in the camera. Lesson learned- when it say's to use alkaline batteries...use alkaline batteries. I'll be sure to carry an extra supply.
Well, that's about it for now.
Adios, until next time.
Gary
