What is NBRC?

Any Marine Corps job can put you into the field and into combat. Nature of the beast. You're a rifleman first.

Remember, there is a war on.

You make no sense. You're looking for a job that's family friendly and minimal time in the field, yet you want to go special forces....

I think you should consider going reservist, go into bulk fuel or something so you can attend college and remain at home with your family. If you do go officer, your mos will likely change to whatever the Corps wants. To my understanding, infantry and radio operators are the only one's who can remain in their mos if they do go special forces, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

As I stated, you can't have both. If you want to go special forces, expect to be away from your family for long periods of time.

You really need to be realistic in what you're thinking about doing and you really need to research before you start asking questions.

You say you want to go the officer route, and then you say you want to start college as soon as you're based. You do know you need a college BS degree to become an officer, right?

And why join the Marine Corps if you don't want to move around alot, and don't want to be in the field alot and are worried about being with your family? Other branches out there cater to those needs, the USMC could care less.

And special forces is an actual Army unit and it can not be found in the USMC. If you are worried about family time and field time and moving around, then why are you even thinking about special operations?

Recon and MARSOC are Marine special forces, aren't they?

People always use the term "special forces" to describe any elite unit. Special Forces is an actual unit in the Army. Recon, MARSOC, Rangers, SEALS, Para Rescue are not special forces. Those are elite units which are special operations and fall under that command.

I wouldn't consider any USMC unit special forces. When special forces are sent on a mission it is that one specific unit unit from the Army that gets sent.

I don't know about that. The Marine Corps is the elite organization while MARSOC is the special forces, at least that's how I see it.

Gentlemen, I believe he is asking about CBRN, mostly known as NBC. I am a 5711 or CBRN Defense Specialist. Its just like most jobs in the Corps, typically 0700-1630 or so. Its basically an MOS where you are doing alot of teaching.

He's not saying the Marine Corps isn't elite, he's talking about actual titles.

The Army's Green Berets' actual title is "Special Forces". There is no other unit in the U.S. military with that title. People just seem to put all SOCOM units under the "special forces" umbrella. Which is incorrect. Sure, they may be special, elite, high speed, special operations capable, yada, yada, yada, but "special forces" isn't their actual title.

Here's Special Forces.
