"To make art well is to raise life to its highest level and to live it at its best. For me, art is a means of satisfying both the imaginative and practical demand of Life—both the form and the contents must be right."—Goodacre 1995
Glenna Goodacre (American, b. 1939) has emerged as one of the important artists of the last half of the 20th century. Her work belongs to the rich heritage of figurative sculpture that links such artists as the Americans Hoffman and French, and Europeans Carpeaux, Michelangelo, and Donatello. In a career that has spanned twenty-five productive years, Goodacre has formulated her belief in art into sculptures of heroic monuments, vivacious children, sensual nudes and sensitive portraits.
Today Goodacre is acclaimed as the artist that created the Vietnam Women's Memorial that stands on the Mall in Washington, D.C. This piece with its sensitive representation of women in a time of hostility will guarantee her a place in the annals of American art.
"Sculpture gives me a means of reaching a personal goal that exists just beyond the limits of my experience. It is a form of perfection that resides outside my power of attainments."—Goodacre 1995
