Which MOS's promote at a faster rate and which ones are slower? When I graduate boot camp I'll be a 25yo PFC. Not a huge problem for me I'm just wondering before I pick a field.

Thanks

Check that link. The lower the score the easier it is to get promoted. That's something I wish I would have considered before choosing a MOS. I made 25 the day after graduating boot camp. If I would have chose based on cutting scores I'd be a Sgt right now.

Going entirely off what previous cutting scores were could be a bad move. You never know when something will go up, or be closed entirely. This might be something to keep in mind, while looking for an MOS that is interesting to you.

Thats a good point. Thanks for the heads up. Right now I'm leaning towards 2141 AAV Repairer. My next choices are 2146, 2147 and 3521.

If I were staying in I'd lat move to 2141. That seems like the best damn MOS in the Marine Corps to me.

And yea, they'll promote pretty quick.

2141 is a good job. promotions come quick, i made lance in my MOS school and picked up corporal meritoriously 6 months after. the biggest perk is if you decide to choose west coast you'll most likely get stationed at camp del mar on the beach.

I went to Pendleton for a shooting competition and I virtually LIVED on Del Mar whenever I got down time.

The beach huh? That sounds awesome. I'm sure the wife would love that. Out of the MOS's that I have listed, which one would be good experience on a civillian resume?

aav's are very similar to diesel equipment as far as the engine, transmission, hydraulics and drive train. a close friend of mine is a 2146 close to his retirement and has a few aviation job interviews in his pocket. m1a1 have a turbine engine.

Whoa there! Pump those breaks! You don't want to bring your wife around a bunch of Marines.

For civilian experience I'd still choose 2141 for the reasons listed by the Cpl above.

All MOS's are subject to Marines getting out. If the economy continues to be this bad, many will not get out which means high scores for promotion. You can't have all chiefs and no indians. Be very careful what job you choose because you will have it for your time in the Corps. Good luck.

Oh oh oh, pick 3521!!! it's fun, and it's fast promoting.

a fast promoting MOS is one that is large (MT Maint... 3521).

there are only a few of them out there. but MT Maint has like 20,000 Marines in it with 15,000 being Sgt and below.

Every unit in the Corps needs MT, not so true with AAV mech.

but that's if you're worried about picking up quick without working your but off.

you could always shoot a perfect expert at the range, run a 300 PFT & CFT have 4.8/4.8 pro/cons and help your recruiter get 5 people to join while doing your 7 MCIs... then you'll have like 1800 right off the bat when you get a composite score! yeah!

3521 huh? One of my buddys was a 3521 and said I would love it. As long as I can work on "cars" and pick up rank at a good pace I'll be happy.

yeah, you'll work on trucks and pick up at a decent pace.
