With a rash of murders and attempted murders, should the Marine Corps adopt a Death Penalty? It may benefit the honor and integrity of the Corps as well as save lives. Below are some articles about Marines who may deserve to face the death penalty.

mr b, after thinking about it for awhile, i wonder if it didn't (death penalty) get thrown out in the 70s when the supreme court invalidated the death penalty nationwide?

I agree 100% with the military death penalty. I am not certain if the US Goverment done away with it,but I don't believe so. Gitmo is fixing to shoot some Iraqs shortly? (Maybe)......... Military tribunal same thing as UCMJ I don't know. Back in the early 80's here at Camp Lejeune a young PFC went to his Plt.Cmdrs, home in officer housing and killed the Lt. and his wife with a K-bar. I ain't for certain but I believe the wife was pregnant. Courtmartialed the PFC and put him in prison.....Quantico...Leavenworth awaiting death. About two maybe three years ago his death sentence was reduced to life and he was going up for a parole hearing. Made front page news here in NC. I signed a petition to keep him in prison. Life is better than on the streets. But 1.5 cents for a round of ammunition is cheaper. But every couple years ya have to do the same thing because that young man is sorry, and he found religion and he's reformed. In any case where a Marine is found guilty of a capital crime, he/she should be put to death. The problem is, the Marine Corps does not have a say in whether the convicted should be put to death or not. The UCMJ determines whether or not death is warranted; the jury in the court martial can recommend death, and the judge(s) can impose the sentence.

The UCMJ covers all branches of the uniformed services, except for the Merchant Marines (under the Articles of War, and, when nationalized during war, under the Dept. of the Navy, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (in peacetime under jurisdiction of the DoT and in war also under the Dept. of the Navy). During war, both of the latter two will be subject to the Dept. of the Navy (as would the Coast Guard), thus subject to the UCMJ. None of the branches will have their own punitive regulations with regard to capital and felonious crimes since all those old laws were consolidated under the UCMJ.

In the same vein, the UCMJ allows broad latitude with respect to applying the death penalty (which does not necessarily require a death/murder to be committed.) The Army dog who fragged his own officers can be executed since he "allegedly" killed his fellow soldiers in a combat zone AND during time of war. The case of the tampered parachutes may warrant a death sentence even without death resulting from the incident, but the wartime timeframe, even when occurring outside of a zone of conflict and within CONUS, also may warrant a death sentence since the UCMJ allows the judge and jury much more latitude in determining this than does civil law. The warrant officer involved in the attempted murder of another warrant officer can suffer death pretty much for the same reasons as with the Army grenade thrower (although the officer survived.)

If they are all found guilty, I wouldn't lose much sleep if they ride Ole' Sparky, however.

Your right on Devildogg4ever.
May-be the Corps should go back to "Rocks & Sholes". I think
thats spelled right. Anyone how causes the death of another Marine should pay the price. I know that someone will think I'm
Bulls**ting, but I can remember when I first was in and your Bn
had a Bruming Out. the Bn had a formation and the charges we-
re read and they removed all ID from his uniform, and the Bn
was given a about face. This kids parents was there, waiting
to haul his Ass off the base. It was the first time I saw this and
the last. But theres one thing Devildogg4ever that should be
done is cut off his manhood first, so he would die like a DOG.
