Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps John Estrada is the man, as far as enlisted personnel go.

He's their main advocate, their direct line to the Marine Corps commandant for whatever their needs are, including housing, child care and training.

He's only the 15th man to hold the rank since the Corps' inception. He's a highly decorated veteran. He's fought in a war. He's served throughout the nation, around the world.

And on Tuesday, for just a few hours, he came home, just to check up on things.

Estrada, now in his 29th year in the Corps, entered boot camp at Parris Island and went on to serve two more tours on the island, once as a drill instructor, once as the island's sergeant major, the base's highest ranking enlisted man.
