“Fighters”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exclusive commentary by Jack Burns

Jul 31, 2003

The Liberal Media has begun to call U.S. and U.K. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coastguardsmen and Marines who are killed in Iraq “fighters.” (Bloomberg July 24, 2003) Which is the equivalent of equating them to the “fighters” of the ragamuffin groups they are directed to oppose. This is a shameful degradation of the United States and United Kingdom military forces. The Militaries of both countries serve constitutional governments elected by populations of free voters. They are Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coastguardsmen and Marines any other term of reference is a slur on them and their governments.

They are not just fighters. The term fighters refers to people that have no population elected representatives they stand in place of; they have no voter approved constitution; they do not belong to a legitimate military fighting force; they have no code of conduct; they have no Uniform Code of Military Justice; they have no uniforms, by which they can be identified; they have no “rules of engagement”; they have no recognizable “chain of Command”; they have no defined lines of authority or responsibility.

This is another “Newstwit” attempt to diminish those they dislike; namely the liberal media’s hate for the US and therefore UK military. Since it is not currently fashionable to directly attack the troops themselves, they create sly subterfuge, which equates legitimate military personnel with extremist gangs. The statement is so subtle that it is lost on all but the media watchers. Don’t believe “Bloomberg” did this by accident. And when somebody as big as they are in news speaks, others follow.

Every group of gun toting (Mostly AK 47’s) teenagers with an old man, espousing some cause, telling them what to do, declares themselves fighters. They say they fight for freedom, equality, the people, Feydaheen, Sunni, equal pay, the old ways, their ethnicity, their religion, their culture or countless other “theirs,” they want. Mostly, newspapers are full of things and people they are against, resisting or taking revenge on. In the end, history has shown us; they want power at the point of a gun. Their governments are always autocratic, elections rigged and their officials usually corrupt. If they do establish a government, it fails or is dismantled at the point of some other gun.

One major thing these control oriented groups have in common; is a rejection of open education and the free discussion terms used in the media. Power shaping forces try to manipulate the people’s opinion by changing the usage of common words (and therefore thoughts) in their culture. The people who use the language determine the terms used and the usage (taxonomy) of the words used in their written and spoken word. We should take great care that we do not allow organizations re-define our words to further their own political agenda. This absence of steadfastness and outrage is what allows lawyers to define “Self-defense” as “run to the nearest phone;” “Speaking your mind” as “needing anger management classes” and “Two shotguns in a closet” as a “Weapons cache.”

All definitions and descriptions of fighters should be limited to dog fighting jets or jetless fighting dogs of rag tag, pseudo organized, and autocratic “wannabes.”
