OCEANSIDE: Three Marines jailed after dispute turns violent

Three Camp Pendleton Marines and a teenager were arrested in Oceanside over the weekend after one of the Marines tried to run down the others with a car and the other two Marines answered with a volley of gunfire, an Oceanside police spokesman said Monday.
No one was seriously injured in the incident, which took place about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Greenbrier Drive and Apple Street, Sgt. Kelan Poorman said.
Oceanside officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area heard several gunshots as they arrived and saw a Chrysler 300 sedan speeding away, Poorman said.
Officers stopped the car, and a passenger admitted there were guns inside, Poorman said.
Police seized a .45-caliber pistol, a 9mm pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun from the car, later learning that one of the guns was stolen, the sergeant said.
Meanwhile, another officer spotted a Ford Focus speeding east on Oceanside Boulevard, its right tire blowing out as the officer followed, Poorman said.
When the officer stopped the car, he saw that its rear window was shot out and its rear end was riddled with bullet holes, Poorman said.
The driver, Dennis Lawshea, 26, a Camp Pendleton Marine, had been drinking and was arrested, the sergeant said.
Police learned that earlier in the night, the group in the Chrysler, Michael Washington, 21, a Camp Pendleton Marine who lives in Oceanside; Brady Brown, 21, a Marine who lives on Camp Pendleton; and a 17-year-old male from South Carolina had argued with Lawshea, whom they did not know, Poorman said.
He did not know where or why the men had argued, or why any of them were in the neighborhood of apartment complexes.
Sometime after the dispute, Lawshea was driving when he saw the three men walking on Greenbrier and accelerated toward them, knocking down Brown, who suffered some scrapes, Poorman said.
Washington and Brown pulled out guns and fired at Lawshea's car, Poorman said.
The two were arrested and booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a stolen weapon, Poorman said.
The teenager was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of conspiracy, possession of a stolen weapon and possession of a loaded handgun.
Lawshea was booked into Vista jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence.
Detectives are still investigating the incident, Poorman said.
