MCLB-ALBANY - Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany now has another avenue for sharing information about its scheduled activities.

The base launched its new Web site last week, giving the community a look into the things that happen aboard the installation.

"The purpose of the new Internet site is to provide the outside public with information about our base," said Col. Terry Williams, commanding officer of MCLB-Albany, in a statement. "As an integral part of the local area, we want people around us to know what we are all about. This will help us tell our story to the community which supports us so well."

One of the biggest changes the public will notice on the new MCLB-Albany site is its format. Included on the home page is a picture that rotates every few seconds. The pictures are of newsworthy and interesting events happening on base or of military-related events in the area. When users click on the photos, the related story will appear with more information.

Front page material will be updated at least once a week, and more frequently if there are major events happening.

"The base has a wide range of support; many activities happen on the base," said base Public Affairs Officer 1st Lt. Caleb Eames. "This site is designed for those who would like to know more to get a better picture. We feel it will enable the public to understand what happens here."

Users of the site also have access to a navigable menu bar on the left-hand side of the page containing command information and biographies, unit listings, and a phone directory, among other things. A base events calendar is included on the right side of the home page, which is expected to be operational in the next week.

There are also plans to post videos on the site, Eames said.

"We want to attract the public's attention," he said. "It draws attention to the great things that happen here."

The old Web address will redirect users to the new site for a period of time, after which it will be discontinued. The base also launched a new intranet Web site designed for employees who desire to share information with those who have internal network access.
