HAVELOCK — Nearly three months after the initial outbreak of the H1N1 virus in Craven County, another case of the so-called swine flu has been confirmed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and a dozen members of the same military unit are isolated from the public.

The latest diagnosis, affecting a Marine, was confirmed Thursday, according to Cherry Point spokesman Mike Barton. Maj. Aisha Bakkar said Saturday that 11 other Marines, who are members of the patient’s same unit, are all also being monitored.

Barton said there are no other confirmed cases of the virus on base right now.

Since the spring, the virus has infected at least six Cherry Point Marines, one contract worker at the base and three children at Arthur W. Edwards Elementary School in Havelock. That figure includes the “source case” of the virus in Craven County, a Marine who works in Havelock, but lives in Carteret County.
