Marine family welcomes new home

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County welcomed four families in to new homes during a ceremony held in San Juan Capistrano, Calif, July 10.
The families received the keys to their houses after being carefully screened and accepted into the program.
The homes were constructed by Camp Pendleton Marines and volunteers from across the nation.
Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Morales, a Camp Pendleton Marine whose family of four received the keys to their new home, participated in the dedication ceremony via video tele-conference from Iraq.
“I’m pretty excited to be part of the ceremony and being able to see my family and everyone else,” said Morales, 1st Marine Logistic Group, Combat Logistics Batallion 7, Transportation Support Company, is currently serving in Iraq on his fourth deployment.
The Morales family has been working towards their dream home for years and they will finally see their dream come true.
Much like their neighbors, all four families completed 500 “sweat equity” hours and are ready to move in, which means hundreds of hours were devoted to constructing their neighbors and their own homes.
Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates modest homes using donated funding, labor, professional services and materials. Most funding comes from individuals, corporations, faith groups, and other organizations.
Each Habitat family is screened before being accepted into the program. The family then purchases their home with a one percent down payment, and a long term, zero interest mortgage.
Habitat for Humanity of Orange County plans to raise funds to build 79 more homes for families in the next three to five years.
