Activist former Marine to run for Congress

SANTA FE, N.M. — Adam Kokesh of Santa Fe, an Iraq veteran and peace activist, is running for the Republican nomination for the 3rd Congressional District seat.
Kokesh said Monday at the Capitol that his platform will emphasize peace, freedom and prosperity.
He says he will focus on issues including adherence to the U.S. Constitution, low taxes, border security, and an end to corporate bailouts.
The 27-year-old former Marine is Libertarian-leaning, and he said his candidacy is an opportunity for Republicans to demonstrate a spirit of inclusiveness and expand the GOP's base.
The northern New Mexico district is currently represented by freshman Democrat Ben Ray Lujan.
