Hello Marines,
I signed up as a 03xx, and I'm hoping to become a 0352 TOW gunner,
I know you pick that during ITB, and you have to take some test, but I was talking to a few friends, and they said that not all ITB Companies have the option for 0352. So if you get a Company that doesnt have 0352, are you pretty much screwed? And just have to pick something else?
Thanks

The needs of the Corps come before the desires of it's Marines. You can pick your field but you are not guaranteed your specialization. I.e. you've picked the 0300 field but you could become an 0311, 0341, 0352, etc.

Does that answer your question?

Well yeah I know, but I thought once you are at ITB, they let you take a test for what specialization you want right?

Honestly, I think you need to wait until you pass boot camp first and actually make it to SOI. Once you do that, then you can decide on what specific MOS you want. I went into SOI clueless about what MOS I wanted, and until we went to the field a few times and gave me a chance to experience a little about each MOS, then I made my decision. My company wasn't given the option of a 0352, and don't be surprised if your's isn't either. You do get to fill out a wishlist, and depending on your test and fitness scores prior to being split into your respective MOS, that will determine where THEY place you.

The Corps will look at a combination of things before placement. They will look at your ASVAP score to see what you are strong at. I.E. if you are strong in math, then you may be picked for '41, due to the quick math skills needed to get the mortar out of the tube.

But you are right, if the ITB school is only training '11's then, guess what. You are an '11. If they have a mixed school, then you may be able to get the '52's. Just depends on billet spots and the needs of the Corps.

I went through ITB from 2002-2003.
There was no "test" for the MOS's, but that could have changed.

It depends on the company you pick up with.
Since there is less of a need for 0352's, it isn't offered as often.
0311, 0331, 0341, and 0351 are offered with all the companies.

In receiving we were given the option to pickup with the next available company, or to wait a month for the next company that offers 0352.
There is no guarantee that you will be able to become a 0352 even if your infantry training company offers it as an option.

Yeah I just talked to my friend, and he told me only Bravo and Delta companies offer 0352 option

Keep in mind they look at asvab scores, I believe gt scores, and must be colorblind free. But always have a backup or two and research now. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I was at itb. Picked 31's, once you fire a 240 youll know why and you may love as much as I did and pick that as your mos.

Yeah I got pretty good asvab scores I think. 75 QFT, 112 Gt score.
And yeah my 2nd choice is 31.

Those aren't great test scores, but they make you eligible for pretty much any job in the Corps. You'll notice that everything is competitive, so it's not just your test scores but your performance and attitude while at ITB.

Some companies have 52's and some don't. I'm in Alpha and we don't have 52's. I think Charlie is the only one that does. At ITB there are four platoons in your comapny. Plt's 1-3 are all 11's and 4th is weapons plt, which is about 1/3 of your company.

When I went through a year ago Charlie and delta were the only ones that offered 52. As to a test if you wanted to be a 51 you had to take an algebra test, and the instructor took the highest scores.
