Bush: Saddam’s ‘regime is gone’

BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 23 — President Bush on Wednesday hailed the deaths of Saddam Hussein’s two eldest sons as the clearest sign yet that “the former regime is gone and will not be coming back.” The development did not quell attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq, however, as two U.S. soldiers died in separate ambushes, while a new audiotape purportedly made by Saddam exhorted Iraqis to escalate the violence by rising up in a new “liberation army.”
