Yesterday I received my DD 256 MC in the mail or Discharge Certificate. I promptly showed all my friends how cool it was. However there is always one friend that like to rain on your parade. She...

Screw her man, go out and celebrate! They can't recall you after your EOS. That's what EOS means. Your OBLIGATION of service is OVER. Its the same as if you do 8 years active, after that 8th year you get out and flip the bird to gunny, MOBCOM won't call you back and tell you to get back in.

Nice try but get your facts straight. I have seen it before. Don't count on it but it has happened in the past and can always happen again. Depends on what your MOS was. Even seen retiree's recalled because of their MOS.

I would love to see them try.

That seem ridiculous. Apparently I am an indentured servant to the Corps? So am I suppose to live my life in constant fear that i could be recalled like some PTSD victim?

No, should I be? i don't like putting my full name and birthday out there. All someone would need after that is my SSN# and they could steal my identity. I wanted to put down my boot camp platoon number but it slipped my mind and I felt oddly embarrassed

Once you've completed your obligated service, you cannot be recalled to active duty regardless of your MOS. However, SMCR, IRR, and FMCR personnel can be recalled.

Also why is it important that I am a virgo? and whats the difference between an East Asian and a South Asian?

Thanks for the confirmation, I was about to flush my system with THC, you know, just to be sure.

Easy on the PTSD statements young one. There are plenty here that deal with that on a daily basis. Comments like that will get you nowhere except to the top of someones sh!tlist. And we are NOT victim's.

And no.... live life as you see fit.

After the inital push of the Gulf War, I had two friends brought back to active duty for approximately a year. They were both past their obligated time. Has things changed since then or was it just because of our shortfall on certain MOS's back then? And neither of them were involved with the reserves. Just curious now why they were brought back.

You don't have to fill out everything.

Oh, and the difference between South and East Asian...

South Asia typically consists of Bangladesh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangladesh), Bhutan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutan), India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India), the Maldives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maldives), Nepal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepal), Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan) and Sri Lanka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka). Some definitions may also include Afghanistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan), Myanmar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myanmar), Tibet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibet), the British Indian Ocean Territories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Indian_Ocean_Territories) and Iran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran).

The following locations are consistently seen as being part of East Asia:[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asia#cite_note-encarta-eats-asia-2)People's Republic of China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Republic_of_China) (PRC), Hong Kong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong) (Part of the PRC), Macau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macau) (Part of the PRC), Republic of China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_China) (commonly known as "Taiwan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan)"), Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan), North Korea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korea) (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), South Korea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea) (Republic of Korea), Mongolia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolia), Siberia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberia), Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia)

So I would say there is quite a difference.

Were you friends asked or told?

Were they officers by any chance? My uncle in law was a major and resigned about 6 months prior to 9/11 and was recalled on 9/11 and sent to Bahrain. He too was in the Gulf war. One way or the other I am in no way contractually obligated to return to the Marine Corps. I'm not saying if they asked my I would say no, but if they told me I would.

You might be confusing Stop Loss, which extended Marines on active duty beyond their EOS, with Marines who were already separated and beyond their EOS.

Not sure about the "asked or told" part. One was an officer that resigned and the other was a Sgt. They were both happy to serve again but neither wanted to stay in any longer than they had to. They both had started families and good career's. If my memory serves me correct, I think they were both in one of the Electronic repair fields. Not sure beyond that. I lost contact with them several years ago.

I can only go by experience on this one. The only Marines I have ever seen recalled with absolutely no contractual obligation left to the military were officers and one warrent officer. Those Marines were not yanked out of their happy go lucky home with a great job and two kids etc. They were requested to return and could have said screw you I've done my time. Rumor has it the gunner recieved a personal call from the commandant to come back in. Thus ITS became ITB with a cross between SOI and MCT. The gunner put it all together then went back into retirement.

I'll be danged if I can remember his name.

In short any recall beyond your contractual obligation is voluntary and you can say no without reprecussions.

It's possible but I was sure they were beyond their obligated time. One of these days I will run across them again and I will try to remember to find out. That is if we don't get to drunk first.
