Didn't see anything in the rules against this (please feel free to correct, delete and haze if incorrect) so I thought I would begin a thread posting monthly regular cutting scores for LCpl - Cpl and Cpl - Sgt. I'll try my best to keep it updated monthly.

1812...wow, guess I'll hang out at my current rank for a bit longer.
Ouch I'm dropping back from 26-36...
Then they promoted 4... so I'm up to 32.
Need to crank an expert this week on the range and get those Pullups UP!

I find it amazing that a POG who has been in as much time as I have, can pick up Sergeant WAY before I can pick up Cpl.
Thats the way the cookie crumbles...

Yeah I've experienced it first hand. Had a guy I went to bootcamp (Not the same plt). Try to pull the "I'm an NCO" card on me. Hope I didn't embarrass him in front of his friends.
Going to boot camp with someone isn't an excuse to **** on their authority.
You chose to be a grunt, right? Family tradition if I remember correctly? You're doing what YOU WANTED to do. Nobody made you join the 03 ranks. If you care more about being promoted than you do about being a 03 just lat move into a quicker promoting MOS and risk spending the rest of your time in the Marine Corps unhappy with more rank.
Personally, I'd rather be a happy LCpl than a miserable Gunny.

I don't care about rank. Only when it pertains to work related, if I have to work with POGs. Then I respect his/her authority.
But when POG Cpl's try to cut in line or expect a proper greeting of the day, then they can go **** themselves.
So, to be clear, it's not Corporals you refuse to respect, it's non-grunt Corporals?
listen, before this gets retarded... the only time you give an NCO a proper greeting is if you work with them, then you have your officers... they all get it.

as for an NCO using that phrase, I'd...
My junior Marines call me matt, and I answer the phone in our shop "Hello?" It ****es people offf to no one lololol

If you're sick of NCOs and above pulling their authority, get promoted.

Some Corporals are just retarded and think that rank makes them better than others. Corporal for me means more money and I can buy more beer from the PX.

I don't understand this phone answering thing... I just say my name....
Sergeant M
08-11-09, 06:02 PM
you're supposed to say "(Shop you work in), (your rank), (your last name), how may I help you sir or maam?"
which order is that???
if you are calling a number I'll assume you're not a moron and called ME not some other shop... so I'll say my name... SSgt Petzold....
I don't see the problem... I have no problem telling them that they called the MT Maint Chief if they ask.
Sergeant M
08-11-09, 06:10 PM
You're a SSgt, so they're probably calling for you. When you have a bunch of different people answering the phones, it helps to know that you're calling the right place and people. I'm sure it's not in any order, just passed down from seniors, so that's what we do.

Thanks for the information but I meant names...not cutting scores. For some reason, I thought I'd seen it listed somewhere listing who was promoted at any given time. My son just found out that he was promoted to Sgt on July 1st but he's been out since March of this year so being a mushy mom, I wanted to have something to put in his scrapbook.

Just contact his last command and get his promotion warrant framed. I remember seeing a list like that as well, but I haven't seen it in a long time.

SSgt last time i checked we had customs and courtesies in the Marine Corps. And you give the proper greeting of the day to that of a higher rank. But guess you are probably one of those who I give the proper greeting and you keep walking.
um... no.
I was refering to initiating the proper greeting.. and that IS what "giving the proper greeting of the day.." implies.
you know how many junior Marines walk by me even though I'm looking them in the eyes waiting for a proper greeting? I guess you should be policing your peers and subordinates more before you start looking up. I do not HAVE to initiate a greeting to you... that is YOUR responsibility.
now I'd like you to go back and re-read WHY I made that comment and who it was directed towards... then maybe it'll make some sense to you.

The "how may I help you sir or maam" always was a tongue twister for me, so I answered,"VMA-*** Ready Room, CPL**** Speaking!".....Not once did I ever get a phone etiquette ass chewing. As a matter of fact it was quicker for the caller to get to his or her point instead of hearing all the mumbo jumbo tongue twister.
sir or ma'am is not a proper greeting... you should not say that...

I understood who it was directed towards but to throw out the proper greeting is for only those you work with is crazy. In I always correct Marines who walk by those of a higher grade without initiating the proper greeting, but yet i will correct a person of higer grade who does not give one back no matter what rank cause first it is disrespectful, and second if more and more senior Marines keep walking by without saying anything back that Marine is gonna stop saying anything, and thats why Marines walk pass you without saying a word.
that's you assuming I'm not responding devil dog... let's not start assuming shall we.
So how would cutting scores work if you are on Active-Reserve? Is it the same as reservists, or active duty.

Thanks SSgt, clears it up for me, and damn, 1713, I guess I'm not picking up Cpl for a while. Hopefully that drops by a lot after October.
you should get some guys to join... you'll get your credit for them, AR don't promote fast.... there are limited billets and SNCOs like to sit on those higher ones until retirement.... which holds up all the other promotions.
But then again SSgt, I just read again and that score was for 2005, I looked at the 2009 one, and it only had 3529 and 3537 for Cpl, which really makes no sense to me.
Also, I took 2 tours of RA, never got a single person to join, lol. Recruiting isn't one of my specialties.
that IS strange about the 3529-37 field... you should talk to your SNCOIC or training NCO...
Alright, will do SSgt, thanks for the help.

new guy here to the site, signed up for this subject actually.
Yes this is a vicious cycle. But most SNCO's I've come across, if you say something they're not going to ignore you. But like the Corps says "The 10%", right?
I always take the advice from my SDI on this one, always open your mouth to a senior ranking person. But it is possible they didnt "hear" you, so you may need to repeat yourself a little louder (if it really offends you). Personally, I open my mouth all the time to senior people. I do it so much it annoys the hell out of them
it keeps them from asking you to do stuff on occasion I would wager.

Honestly SSgt, i dont know if it does or doesnt. I just know that one time I don't say something, someone is going to be in a bad mood and go crazy on me lol. But still, I was brought up in the corps to say something and it's stuck. Nothing wrong with that
nope... I'd respect that... so long as it isn't belligerent... if it were I'm not eloquent with words so I'd just get really ****ed off until I can think of something to say well enough for you to understand.
then you'd see where I'm coming from and you'd feel all bad 'cause I meant well... then you'll look at the world in a different way... and I'd have molded your thoughts to me will....

I agree with you, but do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to try and figure out what rank someone is while walking by them and remembering what time of day it is so you don't make yourself look like a tool on two accounts? Those chevrons are hard to see a lot of the time. That's probably why no one says anything to you.

Hey prolly a dumb question but is the needed score from Lance to Corporal just a basic score that is common knowledge to everyone but me or is it MOS specific like it is for cpl to sgt? all i can ever find is cpl to sgt nothing for lcpl to cpl.

it is MOS specific(ex. 1371) for active duty and MOS field specific(ex.13xx) for reserves

If the Marine receiving the greeting is having a bad day then its on him.
