FORT HOOD – Thousands of Marines wrapped combined-arms training this week.

More than 2,200 reservists from the 14th Marine Regiment converged upon Fort Hood to conduct their largest exercise of the year, according to information from Fort Hood.

The training is part of the regiment's collective effort across the country. The Fort Hood portion is named "Texas Phoenix 2009."

Marines fired more than 5,000 artillery rounds and 36 rockets during the exercise, according to information from post officials. The training ended with a four-day live-fire exercise that included 155mm howitzer cannons, high-mobility artillery rocket systems or HIMARS, and fixed- and rotary-wing close air support.

"The central purpose of Texas Phoenix 2009 is to provide realistic training opportunities in alignment with the Department of Defense's overall strategic objectives in preparing reservists for overseas deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism," according to information from Fort Hood.

The regiment is a reserve artillery regiment based out of Fort Worth though active-duty Marines oversee training, administration and site support, according to information from Fort Hood. Several units come from across Texas.
