Radar facilities moving to northern Pa.

TOBYHANNA, Pa. — The government is expanding its radar testing facilities at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
The $10.4 million project is expected to create 160 jobs.
The federal Base Closure and Realignment Commission had recommended in 2005 that Navy and Marine radar testing be transferred from two facilities in California to Tobyhanna in the Pocono Mountains.
The expansion will include a new radar test pad, test ranges, a 330-foot test tower and conversion of a warehouse to a testing station.
The Marine Corps work is expected to go out for competitive bidding this fall. The Naval portion is slated for bids in December or January. Construction would begin early next year and be completed by July 2011.
