ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Army-Navy football game will be held in Philadelphia for five of the next eight years, beginning in 2010.

The Naval Academy announced Tuesday that the annual duel between the service academies will be played at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

The teams will play at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins, in 2011. Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium, where the NFL’s Ravens play, will host the event in 2014 and 2016.

Philadelphia has been the host of the Army-Navy game on 81 of 109 occasions.

The process for picking the sites for future games began last August. The academies accepted bids from prospective hosts through the middle of November, and visited those sites earlier this year.

“This process reinforced that the Army-Navy game remains an extremely desirable event with the highest level of national respect,” Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said.

Although Philadelphia emerged with the most dates, Maryland was delighted to get a piece of the action.

“Today’s announcement is great news for Maryland,” said Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, D-Md.

“The Ravens and the City of Baltimore have displayed a true passion for hosting the Army-Navy game,” Army athletic director Kevin Anderson said. “That feeling has been apparent the last two times the city has hosted this special event, and was clearly evident throughout the selection process the past several months.”
