Parents to protest proposed Marine school

DECATUR, Ga. — A group of parents and residents opposed to opening a U.S. Marine Corps academy in DeKalb County are slated to hold a demonstration Monday.
The protest will be just before a DeKalb County school board meeting where district officials are expected to discuss the proposed military school. District spokesman Dale Davis announced Friday that plans to open the military school this fall are being put on hold for now.
Davis declined comment on the matter until Monday’s school board meeting.
Opponents of the school say it would be a recruiting tool for the military. Supporters, like district Superintendent Crawford Lewis, say the school could help struggling students to graduate rather than drop out.
