This is a topic that has been done to death, but every situation is different so..
I had allready taken the asvab and gone through meps when i decided to be upfront and not lie about my medical conditons. I am not sure about the process i will now have to go through but i would some advice/words of wisdom on what will happen. Before going to meps i thought that I had never been formally diagnosed with asthma, however I have allergies and whenever I get sick it goes to my chest so I have been prescribed an inhaler numerous times, usually used it a couple days till my chest cleared up then lost it. So I did not disclose the condition, but after hearing about all of the consequences and how this was i a really dishonest thing to do. I decided to go about it the right way and try to get a waiver, so i went to my doctor and one of the nurses there even said they did not think I had been formally diagnosed, well it turns out I had a the age of 13. I read my records and it said in my chart every time that I have astham, but i can not find where it says I was diagnosed. I want to be a marine more than just about anything and I feel that given the chance I pour my heart and soul into it and be great at serving my counrty and the Corps. Do I have any chance of getting a waiver, I have allready scheduled a pulmonary function test is there anything else i can do to attemtp to prove it was a misdiagnosis?
Thank you for any help in advance

You need documented Dr's opinion to overcome.

FYI, M in Marine is always capital, we've earned that right from defending this country for the last 234 years.

Now you have just a tiny idea of what the journey is like for Civils to even make it to a Poolee status.

Let along go on to be Recruits then on to being forged into US Marines at MCRD.

It depends if BuMed clears you for a consult regarding your request for the waiver, speak to your Recruiter. Were you a Temp DQ? or Permanent?

If you write a statement in your Recruiters officer trying request such a waiver through BuMed, if granted, you have a shot.

If denied due to your previous medical records go and get a second opinion of a outside Specialist, then present the results to your Recruiter for resubmitting to MEPS, to clear you.

Good luck, I wish you the best.

It's good thing that you did not lie.

If you can run 3 miles without stopping and catching up with your breath, to me you don't have any asthma.

Just my personal note: when my kids got sick, fever, coughing for after a few days, my wife got panic and wanted to take them to the doctor. And when their temp. got high to 104 she wanted to take them to the ER. To me it's crazy but I listened to her anyway. The doctor prescribed my son inhaler a few times but I don't consider my son has asthma.

If it is stating anywhere on your medrec. that you had asthma and the word "asthma" and it happened when you were 13 years old, go see your doctor like Sparkie said.

If you are not using/depending on the inhaler or any breathing assist device since you were 13yrs old and you ran cross country and asthma is not stating on your med rec. to me you don't have any asthma.

If you believe that you don't have asthma, go prove to your recruiter that you can run the PfT with no problem.

No, it is perm. disqualifing. The only way around it is if you get a functions test. And that can be very expensive. The government will not pay for it.

MoM does have a point, but its not a necessarily a PDQ.

I know couple of Marines with "MILD" asthma, but that was due to the ****ing smoke pits by our camp in Iraq with the chemical **** they burned in them...

but I do know the state of your condition. You need to go get evaluated for the exact degree of asthma you have.

Just don't give up to soon, that's all I have to say.
