Correct your grammar. Did you perform a search? Lastly, we're not the Army.

Here's a task for you: what Marine units did wear patches in the past; what time period; and why?

How Marines don't waer patches on their uniforms?

C'mon man, don't make Louisianians look dumb. Is there actually a question in that mangled mess of a sentence?

Here's a real question, why does the Army wear so many patches on their uniforms?

Forgive my ignorance, but why is 1/23 in your sig line? I realize that is a goal of yours, and geographically speaking you KNOW what BN you would go to, but isn't that reaching a bit? Who will your future squad leader be? Thanks for your interest in our Corps, and for your sake I hope you can answer the questions these Marines have posed...Good luck in your endeavors..

Sorry people, I was in a rush to get to work, 4 minutes late. Anyways, I got to go get my check, I will complete these tasks later when I get home and post the answers. I will correct my sig later as well; thank you for the motivation to not be stupid XD, have a good evening.

Ok, I will try my best to answer these riddles, and my own question.
PFC NoRemorse:
Marine Raiders and Paratroopers wore patches, to signify their difference between Army units in 1942. Marines somtimes wear little red square patches, for landing support and traffic management.
Staff Sergeant PhantomBlooper:
I can't find it on any website, that's why I'm asking here.
Corporal BR34:
I think the Army waers so many patches to tell their officers and NCOs what they are qualified for.
LCPL PaidinBlood:
I put 1/23 Bravo in my signature because I am super moto and gung-ho, and I don't meet any Marines in my area because I live near Barksdale AFB, and all I ever meet are airmen. I also don't know how ot change my signature.
LCPL RhodeIsland:
Marines are supposed to be good at hurrying up and waiting.
Thank You, and please let me know the right answer if I didn't get it right.

Bro...I really have no clue what that was supposed to mean. Don't get me wrong-unlike most of your peers the spelling and grammar was ok, but what's your point? My point was that 1/23 and even 0300 are kind of reaching a bit, no? I mean you don't even have a contract yet... If I'm being over-critical here, then y'all let me know. I'm just a little keyed up this weekend, as I think of the men I have seen pay the ultimate price for the titles you throw out there.

I realize you have only the best of intentions, and I'm not slamming you here-I am not the sig police. If you should choose to edit your sigline in any way, follow the steps as outlined below:
1. click my info tab
2. right side, edit signature.

Good luck in all you pursue.

Nah, no need for all that. The squad leader joke was purely sarcastic. No need for the rough stuff-obviously your heart is in the right place....1Sgt.. :D

I think the Army waers so many patches to tell their officers and NCOs what they are qualified for.

Good try, but WRONG. The Correct answer is because they are nasty.

Actually the reason I like to think is because the average Joe Schmoe in the army doesn't take much pride in being a soldier. They may take pride in their unit (hence the prior unit patch on the right shoulder and current unit patch on the left shoulder), but not in being a soldier.

Marines take pride in being Marines. A lot of Marines (especially those in units that are rich in combat history) take pride in their units too, but a Marine is a Marine first and foremost. After that condition is met, all else is secondary.

Ask a soldier to identify himself, and he might say he's a ranger, or he's with the 101st, etc etc. As a Marine to identify himself, and you will usually hear "I'm a Marine."

Just my take.

Marines somtimes wear little red square patches, for landing support and traffic management.

Isn't that interesting? Wow, I had no idea such things as a red patch existed! *end sarcasm* Unfortunately I have been cursed with being a red-patcher, so I know all about this. I hate wearing the red-patch, for the above reasons about pride. I am not a nasty hooah, and as such I don't need something on my uniform to set me apart from other Marines.

But alas, I have it. The only reason it is still around today is for tradition.

And no, traffic management does not wear the red patch. That is a separate MOS. The only Marines who wear it are 0481s (Landing Support Specialists) and those who are attached to an LS unit (we have combat engineers who wear the red patchers, those poor devils).

Hope this clarifies.

We're letting this kid off easy I take it. He forgot a certain little war in a certain little country with a certain couple of units from our beloved Marine Corps that wore patches as they beat the ever-loving sh!t out of some Hessians.

Did I mention the French were awe-inspired... as they were retreating? There's a forest of some sort named after us too. I don't remember any of this stuff because I go around wearing patches all over the place and a floppy hat because I like being nasty.

I think you're talking about the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments wearing the French forreigere (spelling???). Well, that isn't a patch, is it? It is a distinguishing feature on their dress uniform, but it is a mark of pride and an excelent tradition. It is also a constant honor and reverence to those Marines who fought at Belleau Wood.

Whoops, was I not supposed to give him the answer? Ehh screw it, most poolees and wannabees aren't gonna know jack sh*t about that battle, or the 5th and 6th Marines.

Not to worry bro, he can still tell us what the patches looked like for each regiment (think Indian heads) and what war the battle was fought in.

Served with 3/6 on two seperate occaissions. The first time I was there, the tip was black not brass. The second time I got the one with the brass tip. My BN CO the second time was a 2ndLt from my first tour with 3/6. We had a blast both tours. We would wear the old one with the black tip in Alphas and the one with the brass tip in Blues.
