Marines leading way in Ground Zero Memorial Run

The United States Marine Corps will be forming a memorial run in honor of the victims of 9/11 and America’s fallen heroes, May 26 as a part of Fleet Week 2009. Marines will gather at Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Park at 7:30 am to execute warm-up exercises for an hour.


Marines will set off at 8:45 am heading out of the Police Memorial, turning south onto the West Side Hwy, passing through Battery Pl, crossing through Stone St, heading north up Broad St and turning west onto Liberty St.


The Marines will arrive outside of Engine 10/Ladder 10 on Liberty Street (1 block west of Church) where participants will observe a moment of silence and lay a wreath at the Ground Zero site. The Marine Forces Reserve Band will set the mood for reflection http://www.marforres.usmc.mil/MFRHQ/Band/Default.asp. The Chaplain will open the memorial with a few words. Then the SPMAGTF New York Commanding Office will make a few comments to the runners.

All uniform members are invited to join the Marine Corps in the Ground Zero Memorial Run. Marine Corps uniform for this run is Desert MARPAT boots in utes. Organizational running attire and unit guidon flags are highly encourage.
