Flag Day Parade to feature Marine Corps Band

TROY — The Marine Corps Band of Albany, Ga., will be among the star attractions at this year’s Troy Flag Day Parade on June 14.

The band will march in the annual parade, which steps off at 1 p.m., rain or shine, in south Troy and proceeds north up Fourth Street into downtown.

Meanwhile, contributions are starting to come in for the annual Flag Day Fund Drive, sponsored by The Record. In light of current economic conditions, the fund drive goal is lower this year — $5,000 — than in previous years. However, only one week after the goal was announced, the fund drive total already stands at $2,850.

Among those donating to the fund drive are:

$1,000

Massry Charitable Foundation.

$750

Troy Savings Bank Charitable Foundation

$400

North Greenbush Memorial Post

$450

Troy Detachment Marine Corps League.

$100

S&S Barrett Memorial Post 1881, CRAB Garrison Post 1954

$50

Troy Bowling Association.

Contributions to the fund drive may be mailed to: Flag Day Fund Drive, c/o The Record, 501 Broadway, Troy, N.Y. 12180 or dropped off at the newspaper’s downtown Troy office at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway. Please make checks out to the Troy Flag Day Parade Committee.

In addition to marching in the parade, the Marine Corps Band, is also slated to perform during a free concert sponsored by the Flag Day Parade Committee, the Troy Detachment Marine Corps League and The Record at 8 p.m. June 13 at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. The concert will be at 8 p.m.; the hall will open at 7 p.m. and all ticket holders must be seated by 7:45 p.m.

Formed in 1990, the Albany Marine Band became one of only 12 bands throughout the Marine Corps. Stationed at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Georgia, this band of 50 Marines travels throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Tickets to the free concert are available from The Record by mailing a stamped, self-addressed envelope to The Record, 501 Broadway, Troy, NY 12180 ATTN: Marine Concert.

Please include the number of tickets requested; no more than four tickets may be requested.

Tickets may also be obtained in person at the newspaper’s downtown Troy office.
