Im interested in this MOS. Ive spoken to my recruiter but i want some feedback from someone thats not gonna give me a line of BS. Can anyone tell me what this job is all about and a typical day in this field. Thanks. Also, ive been thinkin about Combat Engineer. So any feedback on these two MOS's would be greatly appreciated.

I was Embarkation NCO for Supply plt. 26th MEU early to mid 90's, I worked closely with the Embark specialist, its a decent job.....and they got promoted quickly, take it!! You'll probably have Sgt. in 4 years.

Even thought the poolee did a search, I will help him out a bit.

An Embarker doesn't go into the field much. I am not an Embarker, but I am a Logistics Marine, so I work closely with them. They are usually office workers who sometimes get out to do operations (such as ports and airfields). Obviously they get deployed to warzones just like all Marines, so that doesn't apply while on those deployments. But in garrison, they aren't very hands-on.

Thanks for your help, Ill speak to my recruiter about it and ultimately decide to take it or not. I wasnt even aware that it was two seperate jobs. When we were going over the jobs that were open and that i qualified for, one of the ones that jumped out at me from what he explained was "Logistics/Embarkation" so i assumed it was one position, one job. I put it down as my first pick, then Combat Engineer.

JWDevilDog's comments are somewhat dependent upon the type of unit you are with. If your unit goes to the field with lots of gear (say HE) for example, embark will be very involved with field opps.

You spend lots of time tracking things. This is done both on foot and in a database program. In my experience it was 50/50 office work versus being "out in the lot" or out and about working out things with other sections. It certainly not active like a grunt unit, though.

If you have specific questions feel free to ask. I was an 0431.

Oorah, CplKJSpevak (http://www.leatherneck.com/forums/member.php?u=52224), for being an embark rep.

No, they are not two separate MOS's. Let me be clear. Logistics is the MOS field that Embark falls under. I am in the Logistics field, but not an Embarker. I am a Landing Support Marine.

Under the field of Logistics, you have several specific MOS's:
0411 - MIMMS
0431 - Embark
0451 - Air Delivery
0481 - Landing Support
0491 - Logistics Chief (only for Gunnys and up)

Those are the big ones. There might be one or two more that I am forgetting.

That MOS of 0451 sounds good to me.

AD (0451) is one of the better MOS's in the Logistics field. They are all sent to jump school, which is pretty hard to get into as a Marine (usually reserved more for specialists: recon, MARSOC, etc.). When they deploy from Okinawa, they get to do jumps with foreign military personnel. It's not a bad MOS at all, and extremely important. Besides kicking cargo and gear out of airplanes, they pack parachutes. Which means anytime a Marine jumps out of a plane, or anytime cargo is dropped out of a plane, the chute was packed by an AD Marine. It is extremely important that they do it correctly.

What exactly does a Landing Support Specialist do? I go to MEPS on Monday for my ASVAB and Physical and I am looking at going into the Supply or Logistics field as a reservist. Are any of the jobs in either of those two fields very Combat oriented or will I more than likely be stuck in a warehouse the whole time If I am deployed. I want to see some kind of action and am wondering if I can do it in these two fields and what jobs may ive me the opertunity in these fields to see combat?

Check at the reserve station you want to go to and see what jobs they have open. Might peak some intrests or something. You have 2 options of Landing Support, Charleston SC or Wilmington lol.

I'm an 0481. We have many jobs. Right now while deployed working your MOS its mainly working flight lines loading/unloading the planes and helos of equipment and people. Other situations you would work ports, rails (trains), or LZs for Helos doing Helicopter Support Teams (HST). You'd basically be the new age shore party. You setup all of the LZs, and Beach Landing sites with markers and what not....at least you learn to. The most i've done as an 0481 reservist are HSTs, flight lines, and some ports. I enjoy the job, some find it boring. At least its not like a warehouse clerk or something. As many times as i've done it, HSTs seem to always give me a huge rush. Something about having a 33,000lb CH-53 hovering literally inches above your head. And when its windy? Woo, rocking and rolling baby, i love it.

Action? Depends on if you get sent to Afghanistan or not lol, and then you may not even be doing your MOS there. In Iraq? Assuming you'd get there before the pull out, then no you'll most likely be working flight lines packing everything up. I'm heading there now, on my workup.

CarolinaMarine said it all pretty well. The most "action oriented" MOS in the Logistics field is probably AD (0451), but that doesn't mean they necessarily see combat. They just have a job that has more hands-on type work.

im thinking of 0431 or 0451 as well. i scored high enought on my GT in the ASVAB so i think i will have a good chance at getting it but my recruiter hasnt really gone over how the job section works. every time i ask her she doesnt give me a clear answer.
