Nicewarner passes MARSOC reins to Trollinger

After four years with the Marine Special Operations Advisor Group, Lt. Col. Christian L. Nicewarner has passed the reins to Lt. Col. Matthew G. Trollinger.
"Headquarters Marine chose the right guy, (but) it's hard for me to let go," Nicewarner said during a change of command ceremony Monday at Marston Pavilion.
Nicewarner in 2005 became the first team leader of Team 1 at the Foreign Military Training Unit, later the Marine Special Operations Advisor Group, according to information from Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command. He later became executive officer of MSOAG, then the commanding officer of Marine Special Operations Advisor Company A, redesignated 3rd Marine Special Operations Battalion during a ceremony Monday prior to the change of command.
"It's been an unbelievable privilege to be a part of this unit," Nicewarner said.
Nicewarner, who is headed to Fort Bragg, was the "cornerstone" of the battalion and deployed eight special operations teams during that time, Col. Daniel Masur said.
"(He) is the bedrock and has been the face of the advisor group for a few years," Masur told the approximately 200 people that gathered for the change of command.
When Trollinger was commissioned 19 years ago, he said he never would have believed that he would have the opportunity to be the commanding officer of a special operations battalion and that he was blessed to have the opportunity.
"It's a great time to be a Marine, it's a challenging time to be a Marine special operator," Trollinger said, explaining that he looks forward to working with the battalion and "the challenges that lay ahead."
