Good to go. I suggest reading all you can on this site. Everything you want to know is on here. If you don't find what your looking for (after extencsive research on this site) ask. The Marines on here are all willing to help and so are some of the poolees who have been here a while. So, do lots of PT, read the info on this site and come back and tell us what Boot was like.

enjoy the time you have before you leave for boot camp. Pretty soon, you'll be thinking, "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" But, thirteen weeks later, it'll all be well worth it. Good luck. Sound off, stay squared away, put out, and you'll be good to go.

Poolee Womack, can't help but admire you GUNGINESS,but how the heck do you get your MOS prior to boot camp? The CORPS needs for manpower change daily. If your test results, scores etc.meet an open billet in LOWER SLOBOVIA that just happens to be open, you could find yourself in a CASUAL Company awaiting VERY strange orders. Are you sure your recruiter isn't pulling your leg?It HAS been known to happen.Hey there, lotsaluck anyhoo.P.S. just WHAT M.O.S. were you told you would be?:marine: :marine:

Benny Rutledge I am not sure if I just worded myself wrong at first or if I am learning something new from you about not having any say in your job. In case i said it wrong I just ment that my job field is supposed to be logistics as to what specific job in logistics I am unshur i have been told i will find out when basic is over but the recruiter says it will be a job in logistics. If my recruiter has been pulling my leg and he can't guarentee anything someone please tell me so i know not to expect logistics for sure.

Poolee Womack,

Appearantly you have been guaranteed an MOS in the Occupational Field of Logistics. (I believe it is 04xx, but I'm too lazy to verify it.)

Within an Occupational Field are a variety of MOS's, or specific jobs within the field. Some are management related, and are not entry level positions, therefore there are rank and previous MOS experience requirements.

Your assignment to a specific entry level position (MOS) within your guaranteed Occupational Field will depend primarily on two things:

Your ASVAB scores, and other requirements. (Sex, security clearance, etc.)

School openings relative to your MCRD graduation date.

Your Recruiter has guaranteed you that which he is able to do. He, as I, told you that your specific job in logistics will be made known to you during the last week of basic training.

When Benny Rutledge was an active Marine, guaranteed Occupational Fields were just coming into being. He was correctly speaking from his reference point, as I am from mine.

If we are lucky, you will get a "heads up" from Sixguns, and he will be better equipped to explain what I said.

Relax, you will be getting a logistics MOS.

Recruit womack,I got a similar deal from recruiter that strange Summer of 67'.I would be "Aviation Guarantee".Still pretty open ended, just knew I didn't want to Cock Cannons or drive a Tank.At the end of the Graduation Ceremony our D.I.,a fearsome individual with a constant growl called the platoon into a loose formation around the Footlocker he was standing on and said,"Listen up!you MARINES!Attention to orders, listen up!"Right then he started handing out MOS and "A"School assignments. We all held our breaths as he kept repeating 0300,0311("Oh no,we're all gonna be Grunt's!")finally there was my self and four others, plus two from another platoon,"My favorite turd,Private Rutledge who do YOU know? You and these six knuckleheads are going to Lakehurst,N.Jersey,6064 Parachute Rigger,Congratulations,Base liberty commences now and the Smoking lamp is lit" I got Aviation in a offhand way but loved every minute of it.Go Womack Go... Good luck.:marine: :marine:

Poolee Womack,

"enjoy the time you have before you leave for boot camp. Pretty soon, you'll be thinking, "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" But, thirteen weeks later, it'll all be well worth it. Good luck. Sound off, stay squared away, put out, and you'll be good to go."

I second that advice! Show no emotion...sometimes there would be recruits that would show attitude, or show that they were ****ed off, etc. Don't ever let the DIs see that you have attitude because you'll get picked on, quarterdecked, pitted the whole nine yards. There were days when the DIs would just start pitting people because they had a few extra minutes and they would say "hey recruit, you ****ed me off 2 weeks ago, get in my pit...or hey recruit you didn't walk in step the other day, get on my quarterdeck." So don't try to stand out in any negative way...but we all go through getting pitted and quarterdecked so just expect it, its really not that bad...at first your like "this sucks" but a few weeks into bootcamp you really notice that you start to get stronger and then the pit sessions aren't so hard any more. Don't be a messy recruit, push yourself in PT, don't request to go to sick call all the time (unless your leg is about to fall off). Always try to be better than you were the day before...the DIs will notice who has heart and who wants to put out and who really wants to be a Marine the most. They might start giving you responsibilities and if they do, carry them out to the best of your ability. During PT they always told us "if you don't feel like you want to pass out and puke everytime you PT then you are not truly pushing yourself." You can do it...good luck man! Feel free to ask me any questions, I just got out of boot a few days ago.

Womack,

If you don't pick the brains of Cuelocks, either pm, e-mail, or posted, don't EVER say that you were not prepared.

I have no doubt that you will make it. The question is, the easy way, or the hard way.

I wish I had a Cuelock before EYE went to bootcamp.

Tell us about it when you get back.

poolee womack,
I'm not qualified to give you any specific advice but you might want to keep this in mind. When asked about MCRD a Marine replied, " It's a Blank-Blank place but it serves a purpose." Keep in mind, no matter what, that what ever you will be going through will be serving a purpose. Good luck to you. You WILL do well.

I know everyone is affectionately referring to you as Poolie Womack. I'm not going to buck that trend (I respect it too much) but I will alter it somewhat by calling you Mr. Womack, this once.
Take care of yourself. You will do well.
When the sheet hits the fan and you are right in front just think of all the folks who are supporting your efforts (if you ever have time to do this). You are not a loser. Losers never take your first step. Good luck. You have got a solid base of support behind you.
