Area Marines to compete in Chicopee test
Twelve area Marines will be among 575 newly enlisted personnel competing in the Marine Corps' annual physical fitness test Saturday.
The annual field meet will start at 9 a.m. at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee.
The event seeks to test the enlistees' physical fitness through a Humvee Pull, 1.5-mile run and other challenges preparing them for boot camp.
All Marine Corps enlistees from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island will participate, as will two drill instructors from Parris Island, S.C.
The local enlistees are: Attleboro, Justin Burnes, Roger Coreas, Sean Devlin, Nicholas Fernandes and Nathan Slattery; Mansfield, Jared Paulson; North Attleboro, Richard Bissett, Carlin Cookman, Michael Mitry and Justin Wilcox; and Norton, Rashad Ellis and Christopher Troche.
