Help the Marines, Get Free Coffee!

Help a Marine, get a free cup of coffee. That's the deal at Peaberry's Café on Route 224 in Canfield. The café is collecting donations to send to Marines currently stationed in Afghanistan. "We're sending to guys we don't know. We know Frank Pizzano from McDonald, that's my daughter's boyfriend, but it's his company and any of the guys there, we want them to have it," said Loren Cole, co-owner of Peaberry's.

Peaberry's has been collecting donations for a little more than a week, items ranging from DVDs to aspirin to socks, but those are just some of the things on the Marines wish list. "Deodorant, soaps, playing cards, things that we take for granted, they don't have," said Cole.

To entice customers to help out, the café is offering a free coffee with every donation from now until May 10, and then every Monday after that. "I'm really glad that we got to give our country some stuff, and it's turned out really great," said employee Rachel McCammon.

How great? Well on Saturday, owners shipped 90 pounds of supplies overseas. "From what we found out, when the Marine's get anything over there, the morale just goes up. So, if we can keep a package from us or a couple packages every week, they know that there's people at home thinking of them," Cole said.

Customers looking to donate may also give any monetary donation to help cover shipping costs. Loren Cole says every little bit counts, especially for a project that is going to last for the next 10 months, the minimum amount of time his daughter's boyfriend will spend in Afghanistan. "We're doing it through his deployment. We're not just going to do a month blitz. We're doing it until he's home, and then we're going to have a big party," Cole said.
