Failed Hearing Test at MEPS/Waiver likely?

So i passed through MEPS pretty cool, until I got to the Hearing Test. I failed it with H3. I scored 0, 5's on the 1000, 2000, 3000 frequencies, but when it came to the 4000,5000, i failed. The doctor who interviewed me set me up an appointment with a ENT specialist. Any idea what happens after that? Say the doc. says im ok. What then? Do i get retested at MEPS again?

Well I would say have hope. If they are takeing the time to see you again, then theres a chance. If there wasnt they would have just said go home, I have seen it happen. So have hope man and good luck.

I just went through this situation. I was just borderline on the high frequencies. You will go to your consult and see a doctor regarding your hearing. A more in depth test will be performed to see how bad the deficit is and what, if any damage you may have caused. I went back to MEPS from the ENT and the doctor there recommended me for a waiver after seeing my results. Unfortunately, my waiver came back denied. Best of luck to you and do not give up! I'll be honest with you, the research I did shows that its not likely to get a waiver for hearing, but they have been granted before. I am still looking to get another opinion and see about appealing my waiver once I have the ammo I need. Again, I hope that things work out for you!

No. Ive never had hearing problems before. I think i may have messed my self up because I was short on breath in the end.lol. I was tryn to catch my breath from holding it and trying to hear. We will see. My appointment is May14.

The Corps likes their recruits to start with good hearing so they can ruin it for you.:D

Before going to the ENT, avoid loud noises and music for several days. Put the IPod or MP3 player away. Wear ear plugs if you have to. Even wear ear plugs the day of your appointment from waking up until you're ready to walk into the place. Do not wear ear plugs at night when asleep.

Sometimes very recent exposure to loud noise, particularly those with high frequencies (music, gunfire, jet noise, etc), will screw up hearing tests.

Thanks to years of unprotected (or poorly protected) exposure to sirens, gunfire, and jet noise, my high frequency hearing is almost non-existent. I readily admit that a large part of that loss is my fault for not using the ear plugs or muffs that I owned or was issued.
