View Full Version : Delayed Ship Dates
Has anyone else had their ship dates pushed out recently? I got a call today from my recruiter saying that my ship date had been postponed AGAIN. I Depped in last Sept with a date to leave of 23 june(I wanted to finish my associate's degree first). The Friday before I was supposed to leave I went to fill out 96 hour paperwork and while I was in the office my recruiter got a phone call telling him that my ship date and the other female in our pools were to be moved out three weeks. Okay, so three more weeks to prepare, My new date was 14 July. Then he called me this morning to say that they had had their conference call this morning and all the female ship dates got moved out again. I now don't leave until 11 August. I am okay with this, I guess, more time to prepare and I am focused on being a Marine, no matter how many setbacks I have to work through. I am curious though if any of the other poolees here have experienced this problem . My recruiter said this is affecting people all over and that one of the RS had to move six female ship dates. It sounds like it's only affecting female ship dates though. Anyone else had this happen?

Ship dates do get pushed back. I would look at the positives of it:
1. You get to enjoy more of the summer.
2. You won't have the intense heat you normally get at P.I. in June, July & August (I know of that heat first hand).
3. Gives you more time to get into better shape and study your knowledge.
Patience is a virtue. Good luck to you when you do leave.

my ship date got changed 5 times before i went to boot camp. i kind of enjoyed the extra time with my family and friends.
My ship date changed almost a month in the other direction in 92 when I shipped off. Went in the office to kill some time the next thing I knew I was in San Antonio calling my family.

Female ship weeks happen every other week at MCRD PISC. When DEP attrition is low, it creates problems for shipping. In other words, when females make weight, don't get pregnant or any one of the 100 other reasons that cause them to fall out of the DEP don't occur, there is a log jam. MCRD PISC only has so many racks and recruits it can assign to a series/training. Over-shipping is not allowed (sending more recruits than there is room for). This then creates a DEPPED first, shipped first line up. Becuase recruits can only be in DEP for one year, obviously those approaching that mark will ship first. Those with more DEP time available are rolled back. The usual exception is Reserves and critical MOS/guaranteed enlistments.
