CHARLESTON, S.C. — Graduates of The Citadel are sharing their World War II experiences as part of the college’s oral history project.

Four grads who served in the war will discuss their experiences during a forum Tuesday at the state military college. One of them is former Citadel president James Grimsley, who was awarded three Purple Hearts during a military career spanning more than three decades.

Other speakers include Reamer Cockfield of Lake City, a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima; William Cart of Mount Pleasant, a Marine dive bomber pilot; and Burnet Maybank Jr. of Charleston, who flew B-17s.

The forum is moderated by teacher and writer Jack Bass, director of the school’s World War II oral history project.
