Does anyone know how long the MOS training is? I was looking through different websites such as about.com that only gave me the location, but not the length.

Have you asked your recruiter? They seem to be pretty good with helping their pool-ees.

Actually I have and he had no idea. He just knew that it was held at Goodfellow AFB.

Were I in your shoes, the next thing I'd do if I had exhausted all of my other resources, would be to find the website of Goodfellow Air Force Base. Every base I've ever looked up so far has had a website with information and contact numbers.

HISTORY
In January 1995, the military and civilian Fire Protection Community entered a new era of fire protection. This era began with the opening of a new Department of Defense Joint Fire Protection Training School at Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, Texas. Later dedicated as the Louis F. Garland Fire Academy, this new facility was designated to provide the United States Marine Corps fire protection community with realistic and environmentally safe, state of the art trainer technology, nationally accredited curriculum, and operational trained mission ready firefighters. The Marine Corps moved from NAS Millington, TN. where they had been receiving 19 days of Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue training to a new $44 million complex that provided 65 days of Structural firefighting, Hazardous materials, and Aircraft firefighting. The first Marine class began on October 3, 1995 and graduated five Marines in January 1996 ushering in a new age of Marine Corps Fire Protection.

MISSION

Since 1995, our mission at Goodfellow AFB has been to take a Marine and turn him or her into a highly trained, mission ready structural/ aircraft firefighter. Annually we train upwards of 300 new fighters to First Responder/CPR, Firefighter II, HazMat Operations, and Airport Firefighter.

Lucky,

I'm not sure why you are working toward this MOS.
It is not an assigned MOS but instead, one that is volunteered for.
Why? Simple. It is very risky. The chance of being killed is very great. I lost a very good friend who burned to death doing his job. I always wondered why he chose that job. I went the safe route, hot LZ's etc. LOL
But I must say, flying as I did made me very glad that the fire and rescue teams were there. God bless 'em.

The crash guys are some of the finest Marines in the world. They risk everything to save a pilot in a bad situation.... I compare them a lot to the PJ's in the AF, but on friendly ground. Plus, they get to go to the front of the chow line, because you never know when they may be needed!

Crash Crews are Hero's.
When on a CAX in '86 at 29Stumps MCAGCC we had a IDIOT A/O drive a loaded (6-500lb bombs) SATS loader into the fuel dump to refuel the loader. Well low and behold it caught fire in the fuel dump while he was fueling it. He did not turn off the engin, hook up a grounging strap or anything correct, everything he did was wrong from jump. Then he ran no attempt to put out the fire. Crash Crew was (thankfully) Johnny On The Spot put out fire before any of the bombs could cookoff though two did split their cases. The A/O was no longer an A/O after that day or a Marine after 6 mts. brig time and a Big Chicken Dinner.
The Crash Crew rushed in there with no hesitation to do what they had to, what they had been trained to do. That day they saved lives and equipment, There was fully loaded F-4 Phamtoms close by wating to be fuled before take off, fuel bladders, and countless other things around that area.
To this day I shudder to think what could have happened that day had they not been there.

Whats up.... I now how long training is and you have one of the best Jobs in the Marine Corps. Training is like 2 months long. My MOS is 7051 also... but what makes you think your getting that job? Have you finished recruit training? Or are you still waiting to go to boot camp? I know you can have the OCC Field "AE" but you can not really know what specific job you have...oh unless you are going reserves. ... If you have question reply. Oh I'm on a friends computer so this profile is not me. I'm a SSgt on recruiting duty with a primaryMOS 7051. Good luck to you.

My buddy left for boot camp 4 days ago and he's going into the Fire/Rescue MOS. I've yet to get a letter but that's expected...he shoulda done his IST today, if the timetable is right.

I actually had interest in the Fire/Rescue MOS, but I'm going Grunt, so I can become a Sniper.
