that helps veterans, preferably Marines, survive PTSD.

Yesterday, I had lunch with a friend who requested my support. His family is extremely close, all the siblings on both sides and their children.

His nephew is a Marine who served in the Gulf War, and had struggled with depression ever since. It seems he has been planning his demise for some time, and he recently committed suicide in Pittsburgh I believe.

I'm working on several fronts to assist my friend. One thing the family is interested in, is setting up a memorial fund to support an organization that assists veterans, preferably Marines, with PTSD issues.

If you are like me, you get PO'd when you give a little to some organization and then over the next few years they spend your donation on solicitations. The family would like to find an organization where the money supports the veterans/Marines.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I highly recommend the Vet Centers. They are completely A-political, manned by veterans, and have the capability and the means to address suicide and PTSD among returning vets.

Thank you Deduke for the assistance.

Is the Vet Center a national organization, and is that how they are listed in the phone book? A friend had good service at a Veteran's Outreach Center in the mid-80's, visiting twice monthly for a long time. Is this a different organization?

Thanks again.

Vance

I highly recommend the Vet Centers.

I highly recommend them also. They are part of the VA. I have gone to them numerous times for one on one counselling as well as group. And as mentioned, they are ran by Vets.

You can find your local one here.

They are technically part of the VA, but very much vet-oriented.

Contact Rev. Pat Merkell, and tell her, her friend RW in San Antonio sent you. This is an organization for Marines, and worth checking out. I am a data analyst for OEF/OIF resources, and have compiled an extensive list of non profit organizations (NPOs). If interested, I can provide names of other agencies, points of contacts, phone numbers, and web addresses for other NPOs whose missions are exclusive to Marines. Just give me a holler.
