LADERA RANCH – The parking lot at Chaparral Elementary School looked slightly different on Saturday.

A seven ton M777 Howitzer gun used by members of the First Battalion, Eleventh Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton was on display as was a seven ton armored vehicle used to transport troops.

The Marines were on hand for a car wash fundraiser to help raise money for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball in November.

Sgt. Mike Rempe said the birthday ball celebrates the birthday of the Marine Corps, which began Nov. 10, 1775.

As for the fundraising car wash, Rempe said, "It seems to be going pretty well."

James and Sarah Moreta of Ladera Ranch decided to stop by the car wash on Saturday to support the Marines.

James said he turned around when he saw someone holding a car wash sign in the middle of the street.
