Family night for future Marines

Last Updated: 10:49 PM Mar 30, 2009

Forty-eight area men and women will soon be heading to basic training to become future Marines. And tonight family members get a sneak peak at what life in the "trenches" is all about.
Local Marine Corps leaders say family night gives soon-to-be Marines and their familes a chance to understand what they will be going through during training, and a chance to shatter myths about boot camp.
Drill instructors were also on hand at Jefferson High to describe every day duties and to help parents learn about how the Marine Corps will take care of their son or daughter.
Recruiters say the first day will be a bit of a surpirse.
They also say one myth parents have about the Marine Corps is that their child won't be able to meet the physical standards.
However, recruiters say that won't happen because they meet with them monthly or even weekly to make sure they are in shape to ship out.
