Two Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., died early Saturday after a traffic accident in Spartanburg County.

Spartanburg County Coroner's Investigator J. Dwayne Corn said in an e-mail that Pfc. James Edward Writt and Lance Cpl. Robert Joseph Lagassie died from injuries suffered in a single-car accident after their vehicle left a westbound lane of I-26 near mile marker 2 and slid 158 feet into a line of trees. The crash occurred at 4:40 a.m., and the men were pronounced dead at 6:05 a.m.

Corn said the men, both 21, were travelling from Spartanburg to North Carolina when the crash occurred. He said Writt, of Export, Pa., died from closed head trauma, and Lagassie, of Fredericksburg, Va., suffered closed head trauma and internal injuries.
