The DeKalb County, GA, school system will soon open the DeKalb Marine Corps Institute, a public school funded by the USMC (possibly county pitching in). A Commandant has been selected and a principal will be hired soon to take care of the academic side. It's a strictly volunteer magnet school for parents who want their kids to have more discipline in the schoolhouse.
Ironically, DeKalb County is one of the few in the Metro Atlanta area without a Marine Corps League detachment. A MCL detachment could provide a lot of ORGANIZED backup for the school and the Marines involved in it. Even though an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll has about 2200 for the school and only about 400 against it, some of the naysaying bedwetters are very loud and one group even claims to be veterans. It must be small because the Georgia Veterans Alliance can't be found on the internet.
Anyway, we're trying to find Marines in DeKalb County, GA, who might be interested in started a MCL Decatur, GA, detachment.
