CROSS LANES -- Military up-and-comes got a feel for what's in store Tuesday night in Cross Lanes.

Inside the Cross Lanes Armed Forces Reserve Center, Marine recruiters sponsored "Family Night."

It's an opportunity for new recruits and their families to get aquainted with the Marine Corps.

A drill instructor was on hand...and an extensive weapons display allowed the new Marines to better understand their approaching duties.

"What's really reassuring is the amount of young men and women who are still committed to service over self and [Tuesday was] really just an indication of what kind of culture exsists here in the chas hunt area and you can see it in there there's plenty of fams plenty of young men and women that are still committed to this country," said Major David Fallon.

All of Tuesday's roughly 60 recruits will leave for Parris Island, South Carolina between now and October for boot camp.
