1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment will begin its deployment to Iraq this week. About 300 service members are scheduled to leave Camp Lejeune tonight.
The battalion of about 1,000 Marines and sailors will deploy to Anbar province to provide security for designated combat bases in Iraq, according to a press release from 2nd Marine Division.
