Hi everyone,
I am new here and would like to know if the Marines have like a Demolition specialist? I am looking for a MOS that I will do until I reach the rank required for Scout Sniper school, which has been my dream since like 9th grade.
If there is no Demolition, I'm considering Rifleman.

Thanks

doesn't this guy seem like that last guy we cracked on??? same year and everything...

and why don't they ever read the site instructions... and of course they have to say "I'm new here" every time....... seriously as if the post counter at 1 doesn't tip them off.

stupid people should feel pain everytime they do/say something stupid.

god! natuarlly his favorite movie is shooter... 'cause that's what all snipers do... they go on a one man killing spree and best some of the nations best agents....

Nevermind, I found what you're talking about.

If you're talking about this guy?

Yeah, he goes to my school and told me about this site.

He sent me an Email this morning saying, (exact quote) "Don't bother with that site, those guys are just a bunch of (explitive)s, they just make fun of you.

So yeah, we have the same birthday... get this, I met him this year, it took me 17 years and 4 months to find someone with the same name. We're both named Marshall... and just by looking at them our last names look the sameish also, his is Horton (pronounced *****-ton) mine is Harton (pronounced Harr-toon)

So, in short, I hope to conduct myself better than him, I'm going to have a talk with him (he isn't serious about joining like he says he is), and tell him he needs to respect the Marines and retired Marines.

No actually I hope I don't have to do that lol, It's alot harder when no one is following a script, I just like it because it involves sniping, and also it's one of the first movies in a while that I've seen that the plot doesn't suck.

Yea, we do that some times, but consider it a weeding process. We know what it takes, and if you can't take us,good luck.
Looks like you passed the test, Welcome to the site. {that don't mean we still won't stomp ya,,,,LOL]

The FIRST step is to become a MARINE!

Then go from there. Until you score our EGA it's all just BS!

0351 will put you on the right track, but it is not a sure thing.
Your MOS will depend on many things, if you even get that far.

If you're wanting to do demolitions then your best bet is to become a combat engineer. However just...

Just happens to be a MOS that you might want.

The number is 6969.

Consists of the following:

Place each index finger in each ear.

Close eyes.

start walking slowly and keep tapping foot.

When you hear big noise, you are offically a Demo Man.

Ok a question for SGT7477 (and others, but he brought it up)
If after I go threw bootcamp, I sign up as... lets say 0351, they could still put me in as food service if they needed one?

SGT7477
03-11-09, 03:14 PM
It use depend on where you were needed, in my time contracts were broken, I couldn't tell you for sure what happens today but I can tell you our platoon 1064 in 1974 there were many contracts broken but the majority went on to be grunts there was 3 of us that went into artillery including me, I can remember the SDI saying you go where you are needed but times have probably changed, whew how time flies.

Ok here is a question I feel stupid asking, but what is a "grunt" I always thought it was a term people used to mean Marine, but now I see you all using to describe a certain type of Marine.

and you would only be guaranteed an 03xx contract unless you are going reserves.... it wouldnt be until you get to ITB and go through infantry school they allow you to apply for the specific MOS you want and they get the Sgt's there get picky for who they want in their MOS's typically, but if you say you want 0311 you pretty much will get it while there...and its not set in stone for your MOS until you graduate, and at that point its set in stone, but more like on paper with ink, (erasable ink pen though)

And you don't need to be a smarta55 either. You may sign up as an 03xx and then when it comes judgement time......food service for thr good of the Corps. What are you gonna do then. Cry breach of contract and get out?

I am an 0351 and i gotta tell you, the chances of you actually dealing with demo after you leave ITB are slim to none. youll be lucky if you even get to fire your SMAW. most 0351s are doing MOUT with the 11s. afghan may be a different story right now, i could see the SMAW being a bit more useful. if you really want to deal with demo, ditch the sniper idea, put in your time as a grunt, or food service, then once you are an NCO, submit a package for EOD. your life is demo. been to a few ranges with those guys to help get rid of some class3 ammo while out here on deployment, and they live a good life. demo is where its at, but the only thing theyve really been blowing up out here is old ammo.
oh yea, food service aint that bad. at least youll pick up some rank...

Petz
03-12-09, 01:40 PM
if you attempt EOD, make sure you don't UNK out of the school, they'll put you in ammo tech..... you'll be counting, yes, counting ammo your next contract.

working at ASPs suck from what I hear.

there was a Sgt who wen to the ASP at night (don't ask me why) while I was on 43 area guard, and our react team got a trigger on the silent alarm, so they all went there and surrounded the place... the Sgt thought we were storming the ASP (on base... come on) and since he was in civies we thought he broke in (for us, it was our job) so everyone was in condition 1 ready to kill this guy and he had a pistol ready to shoot back... he didn't identify himself when we told him to... he said, no YOU identify YOURSELVES.... mind you, I think this guy is a retard.... so the only reason nohting happened was because this guy called the OOD saying someone was storming the ASP... and the OOD called him an idiot, that it was the react team because the dumb Sgt set off the silent alarm.... so the Sgt got detained and processed by us, and we cleared the ASP when the OOD got there, and we locked everything back up.... I don't think that Sgt was a Sgt after that.... I think he was attempting to steal ammo.

I have a question, it is totally off topic from this thread, but I do not want to clutter the board with questions.

I was looking at Marine ranking (I still do not know them from memory)
I found this site here
http://www.military-quotes.com/ranks/marine-rank-insignia.htm

Could someone please explain why the E8 and E9s are split into different ranks, but are on the same pay grade. From what I gathered it is based on the job, could someone clear this up for me?

Thanks

different jobs in the Corps

Petz
03-13-09, 12:28 AM
a Master Sgt and Master Gunnery Sgt are specific MOS jobs... they stay in their original Job field... where as a First Sgt and Sgt Major go into administrative billets that assist company and field grade officers (general as well... oops) to run their respective command.

First Sgts are at the company level and basically aid the CO (captain and below) in running the day to day operations, implement the COs orders, enforce the UCMJ, and make recomendations to the CO when asked or feels the CO is going down the wrong path (which sometimes ends a career.... no always)

the Sgt Major does the same thing but he strives for the better billet... and it's battalion/wing level and higher... they deal with company and general grade officers (Major up to General)

So if a Master GYSGT wants to be a SGT Major how does he do that, I have heard of it before it would have to done to be SGT Major of The Marine Corps?:flag:

Just to elaborate a bit further, the 1Sgt and SgtMaj billets are similar to personnel management billets. They would be the top enlisted man in the unit level's chain of command.

While Msgt and MGygt are technical expertise positions. They are masters of their particular MOS and the subject matter experts. They often set policy and training standards. If Yoda were a Marine, he'd be a Master Gunny. LOL.
