Share the Road Delivers for Soldiers

3/10/2009

The national highway safety program Share the Road, in partnership with Operation Interdependence, delivered leftover non-perishable items this weekend to make care packages for U.S. soldiers serving overseas.

The donated items were transported by Share the Road drivers from a convention in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to OI's distribution center in Houston, Texas. Volunteers from the Houston community, including members of the Navy, Marines and Air Force, were on-site Sunday morning to unload the tractor-trailer's worth of items so they can be made into care packages.

This is the third transport that the American Trucking Associations and Operation Interdependence have teamed up to deliver. Drivers for the American Trucking Associations have also delivered packages for troops to OI's distribution center in Bayonne, N.J.

Share the Road is a highway safety outreach program of the American Trucking Associations that educates all drivers about sharing the roads safely with large trucks. Operation Interdependence is a national non-profit supporting the military logistical infrastructure by providing U.S. troops with items to make life overseas a little more comfortable.
