Flag to honor Korean War veterans

News Journal staff report

MANSFIELD -- Richland County's Korean War veterans will be honored by the raising of a U.S. flag in front of the Richland County Administration Building on Thursday.

It will replace a flag that will have flown the last 21 days to honor the Richland County Marines.

The Richland County Korean War Veterans Association, Richland County Chapter 51, was founded in 1997.

Its members were responsible for the construction of the Korean War Veterans Monument in Mansfield's downtown Central Park.

A total of 23 Richland County men lost their lives during the Korean War.

During the winter months the monthly flag raisings honor veteran groups rather than individual deceased veterans.

The flag raisings are a project of the Joint Veterans Council of Richland County.

If you wish to honor a veteran in your family or a deceased member of your military post, contact Bruce Phipps at 419-524-5844.
